Premier volume du cyle " Les Quatre Évangiles ", qui est le dernier cycle romanesque conçu par Emile Zola de 1898 à sa mort en 1902. Il est inachevé puisque seuls les trois premiers romans de la série, Fécondité, Travail et Vérité ont été publiés. Justice, le dernier projet du romancier, n'a été qu'ébauché etinterrompue par la mort accidentelle de l'auteur en 1902. ll s'agit d'un roman d'un nouveau genre pour Emile Zola, puisque c'est une œuvre d'anticipation, construite sur la volonté générale de progrès social et sur les évolutions industrielles de la fin du XIXe siècle. Zola y expose ses thèses natalistes. Le roman est basé sur une opposition stricte et rigoureuse entre le couple Froment et leur douze enfants, incarnant le bonheur, et ceux qui se limitent volontairement à une petite progéniture, voire ceux qui la refusent totalement, s'exposant à la déchéance sociale et les malheurs de la vie. problèmes décrits par des passages mélodramatiques, mettant en scène la dénatalité, l'abandon des enfants et leur traitement par l'Assistance publique, la contraception, l'avortement, l'infanticide. Edition originale en très bel état général.

One tear with loss and some light staining to the margins of the covers. Le Chat Noir was a weekly review founded by Rodolphe Salis and Emile Goudeau published from 1882 to 1897 intended to promote the famous cabaret of the same name and to serve as its chronicle. It featured the texts recited during performances and constitutes an important literary and artistic record of late 19th-century bohemian life and the unique vibrancy of Paris during that era. On July 26 1898 the Legion of Honor was withdrawn from him. A snub to this France that did not understand him this ""rosette"" photograph was most likely taken after his removal from the order of the Legion of Honor. Exceptional state of conservation.
