The whole is presented in a half blue long-grain morocco chemise spine with four raised bands set with gilt garlands enriched with red mosaic morocco pieces spine also decorated with gilt quadruple compartments embellished with red mosaic morocco pieces gilt date at foot marbled paper boards pebbled paper endpapers and pastedowns slipcase with blue morocco borders marbled paper boards pebbled paper interior signed G. Mercier and dated 1923. Three bookplates pasted on the pastedown including that of Maurice Robert. One joint of the chemise and slipcase slightly rubbed at foot small marginal tears on some green covers. With a hand-colored title page 33 half-page hand-colored woodcuts. Illustrated cardboard. Heinrich Hoffmann's second picture book. Hoffmann let the toy figures which he had bought probably for his children during a trip to Nuremberg now coming to life in a fabulous way. -Heinrich Hoffmann 1809-1894 was a physician and treated patients suffering from pancreatic cancer. In Frankfurt he had a new clinic for psychiatry in which the patients were not blocked off but treated a tremendous novelty for that time. This collection of photo-postcards provide a vivid impression of the pageant on the occasion of the opening of the German Museum in Munich. The photographs show the various sections of the pageant representing a number of professions e.g. carpenters butchers bakers potters galziers textile merchants engineers female citizens of Munich and the elements fire water and air. Many of the sections include horses as well as cars floats and marching bands all photographed with the backdrop of the illustrious Munich architecture. The collection contains a portrait photograph of the German engineer and founder of the German Museum in Munich Oskar von Miller. <br /> <br /> The majority of the photographs are by the photographers Hoffmann and Spiesse often copied into the photos with numbering in white respectively stamped to the verso of the cards. Two of the postcards are stamped Photo-Atelier Hans Möller on verso. Postcards partly with light oxidation in margins slightly wavy and some with light bumps and minor stpots.
