Owner’s name in ink on front fly leaf of each volume. Some darkening and light wear to the edges of the boards remnants of paper bookplate removed from front pastedowns light foxing and dust soiling very good overall. An attractive finely bound set. The Aldine Poet Series was a 20 year project that involved printing new editions of classic British poets from Chaucer through to the 19th Century. They were published in 53 volumes during the years 1830-1844. Attractive copy of this heroic tragedy about the last days of Mark Antony and Cleopatra each volume bearing a colophon noting limitation of 250 numbered copies this #192. William H. Wilke's face-to-face etched portraits of Shakespeare and Dryden are striking and lovely. The 13 color plates reproduce the mural Clark commissioned for the salon of his library in Los Angeles now a specialized research library. Clark's "Compliments of" slip with "Christmas 1929" printed in red tipped to front flyleaf. Mining magnate entrepreneur and one-time senator from Montana Clark 1839-1925 together with John Henry Nash issued a small series of literary editions accompanied by facsimiles of rarities in his collection and this is one such production. The facsimile reproduces his copy of the London 1678 first edition each bearing the reproduction bookplate on front pastedown of the Bridgewater Library from whose library Clark acquired his copy.
