In 8° (19×12,5 cm); XXXII, 368 pp. Bella legatura coeva in tutta pelle marmorizzata con dorso a 5 nervi (qualche strofinatura e piccola mancanza alla pelle in corrispondenza dei bordi). Fregi e titolo impressi in oro ai tasselli del dorso. Tagli rossi. Frontespizio in rosso e nero. Antica firma settecentesca di appartenenza nobiliare al margine bianco del frontespizio. L’opera si apre con la dedica a Maupertius. PRIMA RARISSIMA EDIZIONE di questo celebre scritto del grande astronomo, matematico e filosofo originario di Castiglione del Valdarnol’11 gennaio del 1704 e morto a Berlino l’11 ottobre del 1791. Salvemini, nato da nobile famiglia pisana fu personalità eclettica e dotato di una profonda cultura matematica ma anche umanistica. Studiò diritto e matematica all’Università pisana ed insegnò nelle più prestigiose università europee come quella di Utrecht di cui fu anche rettore o in Svizzera dove insegnò retorica, discipline umanistiche, e matematica e partecipò a curare le edizioni di varie opere newtoniane. Fu membro delle principali accademie scientifiche europee. tanto per capire quanta fama aveva in vita basti ricordare come nel 1763 Federico il Grande, re di Prussia, lo invitò a a Berlino offrendogli la posizione di professore di matematica presso la Scuola di Artiglieria. Fu tra i principali esperti settecenteschi di sezioni coniche, equazioni di terzo grado e di artiglieria. E’ conosciuto con i nomi di Castillon o Castiglione perchè sotto questo pseudonimo pubblicò tutte le sue opere e firmò i suoi articoli. Salvemini pubblicò l’opera che qui presentiamo in risposta all’omonima celebre opera di Rousseau ma sostenendo, sulla scorta degli illuministi inglesi, il progresso della civiltà moderna. Quest’opera ebbe notevole successo tanto da vedere diverse ristampe. Questa è la PRIMA RARA edizione stampata da Jolly. All’interno in buono-ottimo stato di conservazione. Dal “Viaggio Pittorico della Toscana” di Francesco Fontani, pubblicato per la prima volta a Firenze dall'editore Giuseppe Tofani, tra il 1801 e il 1803. Incisione in rame all'acquatinta disegnata e incisa da Antonio Terreni ("Ant. Terreni dis. e inc." in lastra in basso a sinistra), b/n, cm 26 x 36 (alla lastra) più margini. L'opera è considerata uno dei più importanti e suggestivi libri figurati sulla Toscana, sia per la qualità grafica delle incisioni, sia per la grande quantità delle località ritratte. Nei tre volumi in folio che compongono questa ponderosa pubblicazione sono infatti inserite duecentonove tavole, finemente incise all'acquatinta e stampate a inchiostro bruno dai fratelli Antonio e Jacopo Terreni (attivi a Livorno e Firenze tra la fine del diciottesimo e l'inizio del diciannovesimo secolo), da Giovanni Pera e da altri. Nove di queste tavole sono stampate a doppia pagina, raffigurando la carta della regione, una pianta e la veduta delle città principali: Firenze, Siena, Pisa, Livorno; tutte le altre sono stampate a foglio singolo e raffigurano architetture o paesaggi relativi sia alle principali località che ai centri minori della Toscana. Notevole fu il successo del “Viaggio Pittorico della Toscana”, anche per il seguito di riproduzioni e di rifacimenti cui fu sottoposto il suo corredo grafico, in Italia e all'estero. Moltissimi altri libri furono infatti illustrati in seguito con incisioni derivanti dalla grafica dei fratelli Terreni, mentre una seconda edizione dell'opera venne alla luce, in formato ridotto, tra il 1817 e il 1818. Esemplare fisiologicamente ingiallito dal tempo e con alcune ordinarie imperfezioni della carta ma in buono stato di conservazione. .

The publisher of this edition with the publisher's woodcut device on title page was Guglielmo Rovillio whose refined books in Italian were highly prized among the wealthy Italian community in Lyon. The Book of the Courtier was written by Baldassare Castiglione over the course of many years beginning in 1508 and first published in 1528 just before the author's death. The work is a courtesy book and addresses the constitution of a perfect courtier. Castiglione's work is an example of the Renaissance dialogue a literary form that incorporated elements of drama conversation philosophy and essay. It is considered the definitive account of Renaissance court life and is cited frequently. The Book of the Courtier was one of the most widely distributed books of the 16th century with editions printed in six languages and in twenty European centers. It is organized as a series of fictional conversations that occur between the courtiers of the Duke of Urbino in 1507 when the author was in fact part of the Duke's Court. In the book the courtier is described as having a cool mind a good voice along with proper bearing and gestures. At the same time the courtier is expected to have a warrior spirit to be athletic and have good knowledge of the humanities classics and fine arts. Over the course of four evenings members of the court try to describe the perfect gentleman of the court. In the process they debate the nature of nobility humor women and love. Manifesto cm. 43 x 31 con stemma xil. in data 7 agosto 1795. Importante e rara sentenza relativa ad un importante gruppo di congiurati di uno dei primi moti giacobini avvenuti in Piemonte. Cherrise (Cerise) fu uno dei capi della conventicola repubblicana di cui facevano parte anche Junod, Bonafous, i fratelli Chantel ecc. nata con l'intenzione di favorire l'invasione francese. In realta' l'insurrezione fu soffocata sul nascere a causa di una serie di delazioni, in particolare quella del medico Barolo che, consegnatosi il 25 maggio denunzio' almeno trentacinque giacobini. Di questi alcuni come Chantel G. B. e Francesco Junod vennero impiccati e affrontarono con stoica determinazione il martirio, altri, come appunto quelli nominati in questa sentenza, riuscirono a fuggire e vennero impiccati in effige.
