1835003324Leipzig, Gebrüder Reichenbach, 1835. Pappband, 436 Seiten, Kl.-8°. Erstausgabe. Der beriebene und bestoßene Einband wurde am Rücken (etwas unschön) ausgebessert und mit einem handschriftlichen Rückenschildchen versehen. Vorsatz mit kleinen handschriftlichen Einträgen. Titelblatt mit einem kleinen Buchhandlungsstempel. Mit kleinen Anstreichungen in Blei- und Buntstift - diese lassen sich mit einem Radiergummi weitgehend entfernen. Der Buchblock ist etwas gelockert aber vollständig. Die Seiten 433-436 sind lose. Der Zustand wurde bei der Preisfindung berücksichtigt. In der Erstausgabe sehr seltener Reiseroman Mundts, der sofort nach Erscheinen ins Visier der Bundes- und Landeszensur geriet und direkt konfisziert wurde. Preußen verbot seine sämtlichen Schriften. Im Bundestagsbeschluß gegen das "Junge Deutschland" vom 10.12.1835 wurde Mundt als einer der Hauptvertreter der vorgeblich Sitten-, religions- und staatsfeindlichen neuen Schule aufgeführt.

La presente opera, e ''I Valvassori bresciani'' di cui è la continuazione, traggono spunto da una storia inventata nel settecento da Giovan Maria Biemmi: ''Istoria di Ardiccio degli Aimoni e di Alghisio de Gambara'' (Brescia, 1759). Leutelmonte, personaggio leggendario nato a Esine in Valle Camonica, era un feudatario che agli inizi del 1100 regnava su tutta la Valtenesi dalla Rocca di Manerba, presso il lago di Garda. Si narra della sua impresa di liberare Engarda, figlia del signore di Brescia Ardiccio degli Aimoni, che il signore del castello di Breno teneva prigioniera. In seguito, all'interno di una serie di lotte con i Valvassori Bresciani, fu indotto a prendere le armi contro la città di Brescia, radunò circa 7000 uomini e marciò fino alle porte della città dove fu sconfitto da Ardiccio e trovò la morte in battaglia. These two volumes bring together Herbert's collected poetry and prose. The poetry volume includes: Chords of Light Hermes Dog and Star Study of the Object Inscription Mr. Cogito Report from a Besieged City Elegy for the Departure Rovigo and Epilogue to a Storm. The prose volume includes his four books of nonfiction including: Labryinth on the Sea Still Life with a Bridle The King of the Ants and Barbarian in the Garden. Herbert was a Polish poet essayist drama writer and moralist a member of the Polish resistance movement Home Army AK during World War II. He is one of the best known and the most translated post-war Polish writers. While he was first published in the 1950s a volume titled String of light was issued in 1956 soon after he voluntarily ceased submitting most of his works to official Polish government publications. He resumed publication in the 1980s initially in the underground press. Although Herbert's purpose as a poet and the subjects of his writing are serious he mixes humor and satire effectively. "The most distinctive quality of Herbert's imagination" Laurence Lieberman writes in Poetry "is his power to invest impish fantasy mischievously tender nonsense with the highest seriousness. His humorous fantasy is the armor of a superlatively healthy mind staving off political oppression. ''Questa lezione ci è sembrata a più riguardi esemplare. Facile, piana, condita di opportuna erudizione, scritta con certa castigatezza elegante ci ha fatto pensare che sia opera d'ingegno maturo'' (Antologia, Giornale di Scienze, Lettere e Arti, N. 55, Luglio 1825).
