Elaborate border design with national coat of arms placed in the each corner contributes to its official quality. Population tables listed in three different insets plus an inset map of the Treaty of 1842 also called Webster-Ashburton Treaty settling a border dispute between Maine and New Brunswick. Large Iowa Territory and Minnesota is not yet named showing impending Westward expansion. From the "National Map Series" that Mitchell produced by subscription over a series of years. Original color but heavily varnished as issued. Samuel Augustus Mitchell Sr. 1792-1868 is one of the pioneers in American cartography of the 19th century and led the conversion of engraved map plates to more affordable lithographic plates. Color photograph of Edgar Mitchell standing at the Apollo 14 landing site. Boldly signed in blue felt tip by Edgar Mitchell "Edgar Mitchell Apollo 14 LPM Fra Mauro Base Feb 1971." In near fine condition. The piece measures 20 inches by 16 inches. During the 1971 Apollo 14 mission Edgar Mitchell and Commander Alan Shepard conducted two moonwalks spending a total of approximately nine hours on the lunar surface. They collected over 90 pounds of lunar samples conducted scientific experiments and deployed various instruments. After retiring from NASA in 1972 Mitchell became an advocate for paranormal phenomena research consciousness studies and sustainable technologies ultimately founding the Institute of Noetic Sciences which explores the nature of consciousness and its role in human potential. unknown

Michigan and Wisconsin are still territories. Missouri and Missouri Territory are noted including the lands of the Sioux and Iaway Ioway Indians. Color coded by counties the map details roads railroads canals rivers and a host of other topographical features. The map was published by S. A. Mitchell in 1831. In good condition with some toning and minor verso repairs along original fold lines. Contains over 100 gelatin silver prints and three cyanotypes mounted on the rectos and versos of thick black paper leaves together with a Cabinet Card portrait and eight additional photos laid in. Most prints measure between 2¼†x 3†and 3†x 5â€. Several prints have small ink captions at the bottom edge or corner of the print two Real Photo postcards are inscribed to “Mr. Mitchell†and “M.C.M†from a fellow cadet both dated 1905. The leather spine back is perished both covers are chipped at the edges the first blank leaf is detached else about near fine with the photographs in very good or better condition.<br /> <br /> An attractive neatly compiled album that belonged to Manton Mitchell who was a graduate of the Military Academy at West Point “in the same class as his friend Gen. George Patton†and served in Europe in World War I. Mitchell received the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in action while serving as a battalion commander with the 39th Infantry Regiment in France 5 August 1918. In addition to the inscribed Post Cards the album includes two identified photos of Mitchell in camp at the Queensboro Furnace on the grounds of West Point. The album opens with a photo of the class of 1909 and features many unidentified images of Mitchell drilling and socializing with other cadets and with and family and friends including women on the grounds of West Point and on excursions in the surrounding Hudson Highlands and on the Hudson River.<br /> <br /> A compelling well-preserved collection of photos including an early Cabinet Card portrait of Mitchell in uniform documenting his training at America’s premiere military academy. unknown

Follansbee was a Harvard graduate and notably active alumnus serving as president of the Associated Clubs of Harvard who studied law at Northwestern University prior to becoming a board member and director of the Erie Railroad Company.<br>Â Â Â Â This admiring hand-accomplished homage to Follansbee's life and career was commissioned by his fellow directors and => beautifully calligraphed and illuminated on vellum by the Harris Engrossing Studio of Chicago. The capitals are accomplished in whitework gilt purple and green and the text in an even handsome modern Gothic hand with a gilt border surrounding the text on each page. Each leaf is protected by a moiré-patterned tissue guard. The final page was signed by the chairman and the secretary of the board and pressure-stamped with the Erie Railroad Company's seal.<br>Â Â Â Â Binding: Dark blue morocco framed in gilt double fillets and panelled in a dotted gilt roll with gilt-tooled corner fleurons; spine with gilt-ruled raised bands and gilt-framed compartments. Turn-ins tooled to echo covers cream moiré silk endpapers all edges gilt. Binding as above edges and extremities showing slight sunning and wear. Vellum expectably cockled. => Lovely unique beautifully bound and an impressive showcase both of modern calligraphy and of Follansbee's impact. hardcover books
