Two volumes in one, complete. First edition of this rare and important collection, not to be confused with another book of the same title published in 1663. Nodier goes on to explain, with convincing argumentation, that this is in fact a personal choice printed by a collector with good taste, and not by a professional publisher. Nicely printed on fine laid paper. 12mo. Beautifully bound in contemporary calf, spine gilt, with Padget (Paget) coat of arms (motto: "Per il suo contrario") embossed on both boards. Light wear to extremities but structurally sound and still very attractive. Internally bright and fine. An excellent copy. Brunet IV, 1156: "Rare et assez curieux."
In 8° (cm 9 x 15,6), legatura piena pelle coeva con dorso rifatto, pp (12), 107, (1) b, per la prima opera; 29 per la seconda. Esemplare in buone condizioni, ex-libris inciso in rame alla sguardia ("Mr. A.-G. Du Plessis"), antica firma al primo front. ("Turnbull"). Nessun esemplare censito in SBN.

(BN, 'Enfer', n°476. Pia, 'Livres de l’Enfer', 2e éd. 1998, col. 406-407. Gay, I, 71).

In 1980, shortly after taking up printmaking, Masafumi Yamamoto produced two absolutely astonishing erotic engravings of female nudes, still the only erotic works in his entire oeuvre. They are incredibly detailed and precise--yet extremely imaginative--burin engravings printed in relief (photos avalable on request). In 1981 he printed the editions and signed, dated, and justified the prints. Soon afterwards, Yamamoto adopted his well-known style of color intaglio printmaking. Since the erotic prints were so different, he abandoned them in a drawer of his flatfile for over two decades. Finally, in early 2005, the prints were published, each alongside erotic an erotic hai-ku by Cole, the publisher. EDITION LIMITED TO ONLY NINETEEN NUMBERED COPIES printed on thick, handmade wove paper WITH THE TWO SIGNED EROTIC PRINTS. Furthermore, there are three ornaments (including one on the cover), all of which are original etchings by Yamamoto. Large 4to. Loose as issued in original wraps. FINE AND BRIGHT. New.

vii, [3], 477 pages. Index. "Examines women as a social problem, as the puppet of a sex urge infinitely more powerful than that of man, as a virgin, as a wife, as an adultress, as a widow, as a spinster, as a mother, as a prostitute, as a lesbian, as a worker in industry, and as a professional figure. His conclusions are the more convincing because of the thorough study of feminine glandular make-up and the social history of woman which precedes his discussion of modern woman's place in society." - dust jacket. 80 S. Rückenbroschur. Hayn-Got. V, 97: "Sehr selten!".
