Opera in due corposi tomi in veste editoriale: I° tomo pp. XL, 551, II° tomo pp. VIII, 350. L'opara in legatura povera editoriale presenta qualche alone alle prime ed ultime pagine dei volumi, per il resto l'opera è perfetta e freschissima, stampa su due colonne con note a stampa sul margine e sul fondo pagine. Prospero ( Aquitania, 390 circa - 463 circa) fu difensore delle opere di Agostino d'Ippona sulla grazia e sulla predestinazione, la Chiesa cattolica lo venera come santo e "maestro di fede".Dall'analisi dei suoi scritti si può dedurre che percorse l'intero corso di studi classici previsto per la sua epoca.Ad un certo punto della sua vita, intorno al 426, dall'Aquitania si stabilì a Marsiglia, dove visse per molto tempo in convento, come monaco laico, senza mai ricevere gli ordini. In questo periodo conobbe Agostino ed imparò ad apprezzarne le idee. Fu un autore molto prolifico, scrisse commenti, sentenze, epigrammi, versi dottrinali.. Il suo pensiero restò comunque imperniato su due argomenti di provenienza agostiniana: l'universalità della volontà salvifica di Dio e la predestinazione, secondo cui Dio concede a tutti gli uomini la grazia sufficiente per salvarsi; nega nel modo più assoluto la predestinazione al peccato e alla perdizione, Dio non ha colpa della dannazione; coloro che si perdono, lo fanno di loro volontà.
