1893294156Petersburgh IL: The Illinois Woman's Columbian Club of Menard County 1893. Hardcover. Unpaginated oblong folio in 11x14 inch pebbled dark cloth boards titled gilt texts printed alternately in blue and sepia inks with b&w photoillustrations an elaborate production. Most photos are of landscapes urban profiles and railway land and appear to have been reproduced from the negative: these are clear and detailed. Both hinges a little limp but holding well supplied with cloth strengtheners in the bindery a modern cover label was removed by us leaving a very faint trace. The entry "New Salem" was neatly annotated in lavender ink by a local who supplied genealogy there is a 1915 ownership on front pastedown. In general the text pages are fragile/brittle such that any less than careful handling would lead to tearing so for instance title and half-title leaves bear marginal tears as do a couple of pages that our photographer opened less than carefully. A good copy. The Illinois Woman's Columbian Club of Menard County hardcover
