Engraving from "Voyage autour du monde sur la fregate la Venus pendant les annees 1836-39." <br /> Attractive lithograph with sepia block color of the tiny town of Acapulco and surrounding countryside drawn from the Venus at anchor in the bay with two small boats in the foreground. <br /> In 1836 Dupetit-Thouars was appointed to command this expedition to the Pacific to look after French commercial and political interests. He visited Hawaii Kamchatka Tahiti California Acapulco Easter Island the Cook Islands Rarotonga New Zealand Australia and Mauritius. In California he anchored at Monterey Bay where supplies were scarce and even water was difficult to obtain after a long summer drought.
