1880114019Germany: Made in Germany. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1880. Presumed First UK Edition. Hardcover. Blue cloth-covered boards with a untitled plain cloth spine. The front board has the title decorative borders and an heraldic 'Welsh Dragon' tooled in gilt on the front cover the gilt a little dulled in places. The rear board has blind stamped decoration. The edges and corners are slightly rubbed here and there. NO date or publisher shown other than 'Made in Germany' on the bottom of the front board. This type of publication was usually sold as a gift 'souvenir' and invariably printed abroad and could be any date from the 1850s to the 1890s - often with the name of the gift shop on the rear pastedown - in this instance though the rear pastedown has the Title followed by the legend - "Including Jenny Jones and Ellen Morgan of Beddgelert & The Ladies of Llangollen" . 24mo - over 5" - 5¾" tall. Internally is a panoramic fold-out of 12 pages each page containing 2 Sepia images of Ladies in different types of Welsh Costume and including 'Salmon Fishermen with Coracles' and 'The Emblem of Wales' as tooled on the front cover. The 'fold-out' measures 3 foot 8 inches 111 cm . Circa 1880s the images usually taken from pre-published steel engravings and manufactured abroad. A long tear on the fold between images on pages 4/5 but neatly repaired to the reverse and not impairing the images just the borders. Otherwise in EXCELLENT clean bright condition. A former owners' name etc written in ink on the blank reverse of the last 2 images. The paper under the spine split internally but NO damage to the book or images. Scarce to find an ephemera item in such very good condition. A Lovely period piece of Welsh History/Art/Costume. Would be wonderful framed. See Images. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall . Made in Germany hardcover

This work has been issued by the Records Commission. Usually found as single volumes as here would command up to £400 as set of five. This records commission publication is a calendar to the Pleadings in the Duchy of Lancaster from the fourteenth year to the end of the reign of Queen Elizabeth. Please note this is Volume Three only. One large folio volume bound in quarter leather with red cloth.There is some wear to the extremities including fading marks and tears to the cloth bumping to the corners and fraying to the leather spine particularly to the top. The binding is reasonably firm with the boards and all internal pages attached although the front hinge has split and been professionally reinforced. Internally the pages are generally clean with the occasional brown spot or handling mark. The half title is badly spotted creased and slightly torn.There is a barcode sticker on the rear endpaper and a number on the spine but no other signs that this has been an institutional copy.
