This is an argument in favour of a drastic two-thirds reduction to leave only the light brigades still in 1869 potentially useful on the battlefield.<br />This booklet was purchased by Louis Tronchin a Colonel in the Swiss Federal Army. The book contains the calendar fairs post towns and various useful tables; the lord lieutenant and privy council household and state officers peers knights of saint patrick baronets foreign titles and knights bachelors; law naval military police revenue and ecclesiastical departments; public boards clleges literary scientific and professional institutions official authorities of counties cities and towns statistical table of towns; benevolent and charitable institutions etc to which are added lists of both houses of parliament; the Queen's Household; Her Majesty's Ministers; the various government and public offices in england; british and foreign ambassadors etc. Bound in full red leather with gilt embossed royal crest to the front board. All edges gilt. There are 4 raised bands to the spine with some toning to the spine and loss of the decorative gilt embossing and letteirng. There is rubbing to the boards and spine edges. Marbled end papers. Loss of a preliminary blank page or half title page if published with one and a couple of blank pages at the rear of the book after tthe advertisements. There is some splitting to the front inner hinge though the front board is firmly attached. Page 861 has a couple of tears from the upper margin now expertly repaired and a very small circular burn mark to pp 153 with no loss of text though a number '2' is slightly less discerning. Several page corner tips have been previously turned leaving a neat crease. Contemporary ink date and place inscription to the rear preliminary blank page with a pencil inscription adjacent to it. 19003298France: n/a 1900. Wonderful French architectural manuscript portfolio on 'Perspective'. This appears to be a student's own manuscript and sketches from an architectural or art course. All of the contents are dealing with perspective in different forms. Some are purely mathematical such as the design and sketches of cones and other shapes. Others are examples of sketches drawn in proper perspective. The portfolio contains a large number of loose leaves. Each aspect text in French has one or more illustrations following. Many but not all of the pages have pencilled numbers to the top edge. In total there are 48 pages of text and 64 pages of illustrations / diagrams. In fact there are a few more but we have only counted "significant" pages. The paper is a little darkened and there are a few very minor closed tears to the page edge. The folder has cracking to the spine edge and is darkened and at least one of the ties is still functioning. The front has a tipped on printed illustration with the title.
