Mort dramatique de Mme Blanchard aeronaute le juillet 1819.'<br /> Sophie Blanchard 1778-1819 was a French aeronaut and the wife of ballooning pioneer Jean-Pierre Blanchard. Blanchard was the first woman to work as a professional balloonist and after her husband's death she continued ballooning making more than 60 ascents. Known throughout Europe for her ballooning exploits Blanchard entertained Napoleon Bonaparte who promoted her to the role of "Aeronaut of the Official Festivals" replacing Andre-Jacques Garnerin. On the restoration of the monarchy in 1814 she performed for Louis XVIII who named her "Official Aeronaut of the Restoration".<br /> In 1819 she became the first woman to be killed in an aviation accident when during an exhibition in the Tivoli Gardens in Paris she launched fireworks that ignited the gas in her balloon. Her craft crashed on the roof of a house and she fell to her death." unknown

Cardigan from the emblazoned pedigree on vellum at Bronwydd 1859 drawn up in 1677 and brought down to 1861.' three small tears to edges of pedigree All edges gilt. Heraldic bookplate of Johannis Woodward to front pastedown previous owners name written on front endpaper. A small French engraving from 'Voyage et transportation du fameux Barrington a Botan Bay dans la Nouvelle Hollande' issued as part of 'Bibliotheque Geographique et Instructive des Jeunes Jens' published in Paris. <br /> George Barrington 1755-1804 was a famous Irish-born pickpocket. In 1790he was transported to Australia. After working for the police he received an official pardon and in 1796 he was made chief constable at Parramatta. His name is used as author to several accounts of early life in Sydney but whether he was actually the author is in doubt. Rare. unknown
