Under the reign of Queen Anne England went to war to wrest the Spanish dominions from Philip of Spain and give them to Austrain Archduke Charles. This caused a split between the British Whigs who supported the war and the Torries who were less interested. A scarce work. The ESTC states that this work is frequently but doubtfully attributed to Sir James Macintosh. In a half calf binding with paper covered boards. Externally rubbed to the spine and to the joints. Small loss to the head of spine due to rubbing. Evidence of repair to the head of front joint. Rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown Rose Fule Whistler. Front hinge is strained but firm. Internally firmly bound. Pages are generally bright. With details from the Jacobite rising Battle of Culloden and the War of the Austrian Succession. The letter gives details from 1745-1748 and explains various messages passed between him and the French King 'and my other curious and interesting particulars'. This work was published earlier the same year under a similar title 'Authentic account.' The second edition. ESTC reference no: T164224. A scarce work. Sheet measurements: 30 x 20.7 cm. 11.8" x 8.1" Condition: a mild crease which begins just above the "C" in Southern Ocean and winds its way northeast always staying in the empty void of the Southern Ocean terminating just below Ascension Island; 1 cm. closed tears at both top and bottom edges contained within margins never invading borders; mild foxing in spots and a faint offsetting from what looks to be another map most likely: Good-to-Very Good. A handsome map which we greatly appreciate hasn't had to endure any later hand coloring. Here's a 2001 description from Old World Auctions: "Charming small map of the continent with a decorative cartouche and compass rose. Considerable detail along the coasts with Indian names in the interior. Part of the African continent is shown at right and the Solomon Islands are shown in the Pacific. Several discoveries are noted by name and date." <br/><br/> unknown
