The sixth part of Irving's catechism series issued in twelve total parts though the only one related to Judaism. The work is divided into three books describing the Civil State Ecclesiastical State and Domestic Condition. Subjects covered include the Twelve Tribes of Israel the Sabbath synagogues and other places of divine worship annual religious festivals marriage and other domestic matters etc. The whole text is couched in the past tense and seems to focus primarily on historical Israelites. The frontispiece depicts a Passover Seder in which the participants are clothed in historical robes. Relatively scarce. OCLC locates four copies of this second edition -- New York Public Library University of Pennsylvania Salem Academy in North Carolina and the University of Liverpool. Since its inception in 1879 and until World War 1, the Hebrew was a leading Anglo-Jewish weekly, which helped to mold the structure and attitudes of the community's English-speaking sectors. Responsible for it was the unique character of the nine-member founding editorial board, mostly of national prominence in religious and civic life. They remained anonymous until 1929. Kadushin was born in Minsk, Russia, and emigrated with his family to the United States in 1897. He was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. Kadushin held pulpits in New York City (Temple Israel, 1921-26) and Chicago (Humboldt Blvd. Temple, 1926-31) , and was Hillel Foundation director at the University of Wisconsin (1931-42) . He taught at the Hebrew High School of New York (1942-52) and at the Academy for Higher Jewish Learning in New York, of which he was also dean (from 1958) . She visualizes the horror and terror that disrupted the idyllic, middle class neighborhood of Schöneberg with the Nazis' rise to power. Hildegard´s parents and brother were deported to Auschwitz on December 14, 1942; she survived by emigrating to Great Britain. Barbara Loftus` mother kept these memories private all her life.
