New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (21 x 14 cm). In English. 576 p., ills. "At an early age, I started questioning myself, wondering what there was beyond becoming wealthy. When I reached 65, I wrote an essay. It's title was "The Ability to Become Redundant." As I advance in age, the time I had left became more limited while the number of books waiting to be read on my shelves increased. I needed to find a solution to this contradictory situation. I needed to change my lifestyle. I reduced the time I wasted sleeping to the minimum. Transferring my business responsibilities to the younger generation sooner would address this situation. I took rapid steps in that direction. It was a great source of pride for me to see professionals who had absorbed the principles set from the beginning by the founders. It value this more and more. I see becoming redundant as the crowning of my life." Now when I look back as a man who has reached 85, I believe I have covered quite a distance. Life isn't as long as one thinks. Time flows and passes. What is left behind is what you've done, the causes you have struggled for. Don't forget that what we call life is not about the years you have spent, it is made of what you've experienced. Everything starts small, it starts with small steps. Unexpected obstacles appear at unexpected moment, obstacles emerge in front of you and you are being tested. Of course, there are opportunities too. Your character and your attitude develop as a result of what you've experienced. It is good that I realised early, after I had earned some money, that owning more money wasn't very important. It is good that I made success appear ordinary, that I diversified my assets. It is good that I pursued my quest and confronted the question "what will I strive for in my life?". It is good that I always sought respectability. It is good that I met Üzeyir Garih. It is good that in time I left the business to professionals. It is good that I embarked on the way to become redundant. It is good that I freed myself and relieved myself of my burdens. It is good that I wasn't raised with a single identity. It is good that I turned to my social responsibilities. It is good that I thought, and expressed my opinions courageously. It is good that I didn't pay attention to threats. It is good that I questioned myself and the society, that is you. It is good that I said: "let's cleanse ourselves of our sins". It is good that I became an "early crowing rooster". I live every day with the aim of becoming a more perfect and a more useful human being.".

[1789] Original illustrated paper wrappers. 8vo. XVI, 16 pages. 23 cm. Introduction by Isidore S. Meyer, followed by a photostatic reproduction of the 1789 edition of the sermon given by Gershom Mendes Seixas, original title: A religious discourse delivered in the synagogue in this city, on Thursday the 26th November, 1789. Agreeable to the proclamation of the president of the United States of America, to be observed as a day of public thanksgiving and prayer. Printed by Archibald M'Lean, at Franklin's Head no. 41, Hanover-Square. Introduction outlines contemporaneous historical background, with reference and bibliographic notes. Sermon delivered by Gershom Mendez Seixas. American rabbi and patriot; born in New York city Jan. 14, 1745; died there July 2, 1816; son of Isaac Mendez Seixas (1708-80) and Rachel Levy, daughter of Moses Levy, an early New York merchant. Seixas became the minister of Shearith Israel, the Spanish and Portuguese congregation of his native city, in 1766, and occupied the rabbinate for about half a century. At the outbreak of the American Revolution he at once espoused the Patriot cause, though many of the Christian ministers of the city sympathized with the Tories. After the war Seixas returned to New York (March 23, 1784) and resumed his former position as rabbi of Congregation Shearith Israel. He was one of the first ministers to preach a regular Thanks-giving Day sermon (see Daily Gazette, Dec. 23, 1789) , and was also one of the fourteen clergymen participating in the ceremony of the inauguration of George Washington as first president of the United States. In 1787 he became a trustee of Columbia College in the city of New York, and held that office continuously to 1815, being the only Jew ever so honored. When the college was incorporated, Seixas' name appeared in the charter as one of the incorporators. (1906 Jewish Encyclopedia) . Publications of the Jewish Historical Society of New York; number 2. Full leather. 8vo. 68; 108 pages. 22 cm. First edition. Two volumes bound together: Book the first. Wrote under the direction of the Lord God, and published by His sacred command; it being the first sign of warning for the benefit of all nations. Containing, with other great and remarkable things, not revealed to any other person on earth, the restoration of the Hebrews to Jerusalem, by the year 1798: under their revealed prince and prophet. / A revealed knowledge of the prophecies & times, particularly of the present time, the present war, and the prophecy now fulfilling. The year of the world 5913. Book the second. Containing, with other great and remarkable things, not revealed to any other person on earth, the sudden and perpetual fall of the Turkish, German, and Russian empires, wrote under the direction of the Lord God, and published by his sacred command, it being a second sign of warning for the benefit of all nations, by the man that will be revealed to the Hebrews as their prince and prophet. Two volumes constituting the major work of Richard Brothers, the founder of Anglo Israelism; born Dec. 25, 1757, at Placentia, Newfoundland; died at London Jan. 25, 1824. Brothers described himself as the nephew of the Almighty, because he considered that he was descended from one of the brothers of Jesus, and claimed that on Nov. 17, 1795, he would be revealed as the prince of the Hebrews and ruler of the world. Before that date, however, he had been removed to a lunatic asylum, where he wrote his Revealed Knowledge of the Prophecies (1794) , A Description of the New Jerusalem (1801) , and The New Covenant Between God and His People (a posthumous work, 1830) . Brothers seems to have been the first person to claim that the English are descendants of the Lost Ten Tribes; and his views are still referred to with respect by the adherents of Anglo-Israelism. His Description of the New Jerusalem contains a series of plates of the various officials of the new kingdom which was to be restored in Palestine under his leadership. These officials are all dressed in the court costume of George III. (1906 Jewish Encyclopedia) . Later full leather binding, with pastedown red leather gilt title on spine, decorative marbled boards over leather. Subjects: Bible - Prophecies - Early works to 1800. Prophets - England. Prophecies (Occultism) . Jews - Restoration. Private revelations. Brothers, Richard, 1757-1824 - Prophecies. Bible - Prophecies. Ex-library copy with usual stamps, and pocket. Cover shows evidence of removed call-numbers. ; The present study constitutes a critical edition, with commentary of a hitherto unpublished section of the fullest extant Chronicle of Samaritan history. This Chronicle -- Chronicle II -- commences with the period of the biblical historical books (Joshua, Judges, Samuel and Kings/II Chronicles) and continues the Samaritan saga down until the beginning of the 20th century. The publication of this section of the Chronicle fills an important gap in Samaritan studies, in that it treats of one of the most charismatic personalities in Samaritan tradition and of a period (3rd--4th cent. AD) which constitutes a high-water mark in Samaritan history. Baba Rabba, literally "The Great Gate", was one of the greatest of the Samaritan high priests. He is believed to have lived during the late third and early fourth century CE. The son of the Samaritan high priest Nethanel, Baba Rabba was probably born in Shechem. Little is known about his life. According to later Samaritan works, he was a religious reformer and together with the scholar Marqah helped codify Samaritan liturgy and worship. He appears to have had connections with the Roman authorities, and may have exercised some temporal authority over the Samaritan community, which appears to have been relatively autonomous during this period. One chronicle places his death at 362 in Constantinople. Baba Rabba's reign is remembered as a golden age by Samaritans to this day. Tales of his piety and miracle-working are a mainstay of Samaritan folklore. ; Studia Post Biblica; 250 pages
