A first edition copy of this charmingly illustrated Beatrix Potter tale from the library of distinguished English fine bookbinder Elizabeth Greenhill. First edition with date to the title page and with Quinby No. 22 endpapers Plate XII. This copy from the library of Elizabeth Greenhill 1907-2006 an English bookbinder who studied under Douglas Cockerell Peter McLeish and William Matthews and established a bindery post-Second World War. Greenhill was the first women to be elected to the Guild of Contemporary Bookbinders now called Designer Bookbinders in 1961 and served as honorary secretary from 1967 to 1974 before she was elected to a single term as the guild's first women president in 1975. She made more than 100 bindings with The Bodleian Library holding two collections of boxes relating to her life and career in its Libraries Respository since 2009. In the publisher's green pictorial boards. Beatrix Potter's charming tale describing the adventures of a pig and how his life changes upon meeting his soulmate. Illustrated in Potter's signature style with a colour frontispiece title page vignette fourteen colour plate and numerous in-text black and white illustrations. Collated complete. Cover is quite attractive although very lightly soiled by use minor dampstain along outer edge of front cover paper cover worn through along about half the front edge of spine and a little at top of spine quarter inch of cover missing from base of spine cover on spine is slightly loose at the bottom and would pull away if due care not used has not been repaired. Upper page edges lightly soiled binding slightly weak at a couple of pages; outer page edges have slight ripple; outer half-inch of endpapers lightly soiled personalized gift inscripion in neat old script "To child's name from mother and father 1 Sept 03" on front free endpaper; a few pages have very minor soil at the binding.
