10379From 'Punch or the London Charivari' 12 October 1867. On paper 52 x 33 cm. Tenniel's monogram with number 58 in bottom left-hand corner. An giant female figure with black mask blazing torch and sash on which is written 'MURDER' directs an assemblage of Fenians and Sheffield trade unionists. The caption reads 'Fenian conspiracies and outrages in Ireland and Manchester - co-incident with the revelations of murderous Trade-unionism at Sheffield and elsewhere - agitated the public mind and seemed like an evocation of the Spirit of Slaughter to trample on the Law. - October 1867.' Image itself clear and complete on lightly aged paper creasing and slight damage to margins and extremities. Two horizontal creases from folding into magazine. Arak is a Native American hero and the son of the thunder god in his youth an attack on his tribe leads to his canoe drifting across the oceans eventually being found by Viking warriors with whom he begins his adventures - eventually allying with Charlemagne and his knights battling ancient and legendary foes all whilst on a quest to reunite with his lost tribe. A classic DC adventure hero series.The issues themselves are in good condition with little wear though not a complete run the set includes issue nos.: 1-2 4-8 11 13-14 16-221 23 26-32 34-37 39-40 49-50 and the 1984 Annual.
