Each illustration and accompanying text in a distinct decorative border. GORDON N. RAY The Illustrator and the Book in England from 1790 to 1914 notes that in his later years Owen turned to "original designs of his own." This mid-Victorian time period was the heyday of chromolithography printing with this a brilliant example. Embossed cloth decorated in gilt and green with gilt lettering. Lovely example of Victorian binding beveled edges endpapers toned slight toning to a few fore-edges not affecting plates which are brilliant and clean. In 1876 another edition in large quarto with etchings transferred to stone and printed as lithographs was published by William Tegg. In this notable volume Millais is represented by Summer Indolence a most graceful study of a girl lying on her back in a meadow with a small child who is wearing a daisy chain seated at her side. Mr. J. McNeill Whistler contributes two delightful landscapes The Angle and A River Scene. "Summer Indolence" by famed Pre-Raphaelite artist John Everett Millais derives from a figure in Millais's painting "Spring Apple Blossoms." The Etching Revival and Pre-Raphaelite Movement shared many comonalities as new artistic forms in the Victorian Era. Smith -- aka Robert Emil Schmidt 1917-19980 was a radio and television personality from yes! Buffalo who through a series of events found himself at the helm of an enormously popular children's television show which unlike other kids' shows was not designed as a teaching device but only to please the children. "Hey Kids What Time Is It It's Howdy Doody Time! and the song the words and music of which constitutes the last page of this book would be sung in unison -- LOUD! Story of Howdy Doody the Cowboy rodeo star back home after a busy season with the whole summer stretched out before him. He and his friends decide to start their own circus so they take off on a plane for Africa and recruit all the happy animals including the Octopus which Howdy scoops up in a net while hanging from the plane. Charles Maurice Detmold and Edward Julius Detmold were English graphic artists twins born on 21 November 1883. Due to the illness of their father they grew up in the care of their uncle Dr E B Shuldham who had acquired a notable collection of Japanese woodprints of plants and animals. This encouraged the twins to commence drawing animals and plants at a very early age and resulted in a debut aged 13 at the Royal Academy and the Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters with nature studies in the Japanese style.
