Pretty coloured frontispiece unsigned coloured vignette on title page by Agnes Richardson unsigned 8 other colour plates by Charles Robinson Louis Wain Joyce Mercer 2 E. Dorothy Rees and Honor Appleton etc. Full page illustrations in black and white with yellow by Charles Robinson 2 Grace Lodge and others text illustrations by H.B. Neilson and H.G.C. Marsh Lambert. First item: The Little Sister by Laurence Alma Tadema other authors include Ethel Talbot and Katharine Tynan. There is a 2 page poem on Robin Hood by G.B. Hughes with a colour plate and a 1 page poem about a Golly. Spine slightly darkened with a tiny nick to head and tail upper cover slightly dusty and very slightly bowed 4 items coloured by a child 1 messily otherwise contents very nice. A sweet annual for very young children quite scarce. A very good plus copy. Adley and Lofts mention only 2 years 1956 and 1957 not listed in Alan Clark but the British Library Catalogue lists it from 1922-1935. First only edition 8vo 23 x 17.5 cm; lithographed title 6 linocuts of which 4 are in colour ownership inscription in pencil to p1; original purple printed wrappers with mounted illustration by Usenko reapirs to spine covers faded else a very good copy.<br /> The first collection of poems from the Imagists printed in a tiny edition in the Penza provincial printing house. 'Exodus' refers to leaving Penza where Mariengof lived as a student. In the spring of 1918 the poet's father died from a stray bullet during the rebellion of the Czech legionnaires. After this tragic event Mariengof left Penza forever and moved to Moscow where he organised a group of four poet friends: Esenin Mariengof Shershenevich and Ivnev which became the backbone of a new literary movement. Mariengof later said 'Imagism was born in the city of Penza on Kazanskaya Street'. <br /><br />The collection of poetry also includes the notable first appearance of Osip Mandel'shtam's Dekabrist' from 1917 a striking anomaly it would be first published officially in Tristia in 1922. The Song of Wise Oleg is based on a chronicle by Nikolay Karamzin and remains one of the most well-known Russian poems of all time. <br /><br />Illustrated in the style of a medieval manuscript it is richly embellished with head and tail pieces and decorated initials.
