This edition is undated and we have not been able to determine whether it is earlier or later than another edition that is dated 1909 and credited to Kobe-based photographer S. Ichida Ichida Sota 1843-1896. In 1909 the Kanegafuchi Spinning Company employeed more than 14000 workers and was the largest cotton spinning company in Japan. The company was uncommonly committed to the welfare of its laborers providing schooling for both adult workers and their children and offering them affordable housing healthcare and recreational opportunities. The high-quality images in this work show the company's offices in Tokyo and Hyogo the mills in Hyogo opening ceremonies of the "School for Female Operatives" the kindergarten plant nursery dormitory and family housing dining hall baths retail shop infirmary recreation hall and playground. Foliation can be supplied upon request. Text is printed within a ruled frame with headpieces tailpieces and floriated initials. Contemporary full polished calf with hand-tooled decorative borders in blind to both boards six raised bands red morocco label with gilt lettering on backstrip edges speckled red. A good copy internally bright and crisp with light scattered foxing lacks the portrait of John Weever but has the extra engraved title-page and original index the original title-page appears to have been carefully cut along the margins and mounted on what was formerly the ffep the engraved title-page is similarly mounted on a blank leaf from the book that has been detached and slipped in covers are rubbed and scuffed joints are shaken and split though still attached .Notwithstanding these defects the contents are clean intact and very good. In addition to being a discourse on its subject this work is a compilation with commentary on epitaphs arms and inscriptions on tombs monuments church windows et al. The work focuses on the dioceses of Canterbury London Norwich and Rochester. Lowndes and DNB both citing Wharton's Anglia Sacra note that John Weever 1576-1632-poet anthologist and antiquary-made extensive errors in the interpretation of numbers and in transcription. However both note the work's great utility to historians and biographers. Writing in 1899 Sidney Lee who wrote the Weever entry in DNB points out that " .almost all sepulchral inscriptions in Weever are now obliterated" and that "despite its defects Weever's book is invaluable." This copy conforms to the collation and pagination in ESTC S118104 and the Melvyl/UCR record. Folding trade card 2.5 x 3.75 inches with views of the Union Volunteer Refreshment Saloon and the attached hospital on the front and back and text inside. Light soiling; very good. The Union Volunteer Refreshment Saloon was "staffed by volunteers and provided relief for Union troops on their way to or returning from battlefields in the South. Its services included warm meals temporary housing medical services and washing facilities. From its opening on May 27 1861 to its closing on December 1 1865 over 800000 men were assisted in this saloon and served over 1025000 meals" Smithsonian. This card was made specifically for the 50th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers who spent December 20th 1862 to January 7th 1863 in Philadelphia before departing by sea for duty in the Port Hudson Campaign in Louisiana. The unit's regimental historian later noted that the regiment "received every attention and the most generous hospitality" at both the Union Saloon and the nearby Cooper Shop Volunteer Refreshment Saloon and concluded that "words can hardly express the kindness lavished upon the soldiers by the people of this patriotic city during the war." The interior of the card welcomes the regiment includes a roster of the field staff and line officers present in Philadelphia and provides a list of places of interest that soldiers might wish to visit while in the city. 20798Album containing eleven 7"x 9" professional linen-backed photographs showing the process and results of installing new street lights along a main commercial thoroughfare in Hamilton Ohio. Hamilton is the county seat of Butler County about 20 miles north of Cincinnati. In the early twentieth century "the town was a heavy manufacturing center for vaults and safes machine tools cans for vegetables paper paper making machinery locomotives frogs and switches for railroads steam engines diesel engines foundry products printing presses and automobile parts" wiki. The photos show wide streets lined with businesses which with the advent of increased automobile traffic were undoubtedly eager for the most modern and effective methods of illumination. A wonderful set of facing night views shows how much brighter the new lights are. An additional 16 snapshots photos are laid into the album most showing people posing with what appear to be temporary streetlights. Five were taken in front of the office of the Electric Railway Equipment Co. of Cincinnati which may have supplied some of the equipment used to install the new lights. unknown books

At one time a parliamentarian and involved in the capture of Charles in 1647 he later became disaffected with Cromwell and wrote the pamphlet Killing No Murder in 1657 arguing that the murder of a tyrant was no murder. He was captured in 1657 on a return visit to England to instigate a rebellion was interrogated by Cromwell and imprisoned in the tower of London where he died the next year 1658. Size: Octavo 8vo. The menu was signed by family and friends that were present at the event. The front cover depicts a religious figure on a train along with a large religious figure with many bottles of wine. Roughly translates: "Jeannot Leclerc/First Solemn Communion/Menu/In time the Lord said: "Woe to St. Lo"/and we venerate this holy day our great Patrons/St.Estephe/St. Emilion/Ste. Croix du Mont/Amen.the bottle!" Depicted on the first interior page is an illustration of a scroll and a large man smoking a cigar. Translates: "It is a treat to see my first's communion/If you are really well happy and cheerful/Praise the stove/Thank the master of the house/and in memory of this memorable precious day/Leave me a sly autograph/ So you are able to write." Under this illustration and writing is the signatures of over 10 people with a couple of longer notes. On the facing page many cheeky illustrations depicting the Menu which is also illustrated on this page.
