Illustrated with frontispiece; 2 plates 56 plans and maps; mostly folding. Frontispiece is a fold-out painting: "Semper Fidelis The Last Stand of the Second Devons at Bois-des-Buttes May 27th 1918." Two appendices: I Honours and Awards pp. 475-517; and II Casualties pp. 519-724. A history of the Regiment during World War I compiled from "many different sources of which the principal one has been the War Diaries kept by the battalions on active service" as well as the evidence "found in the diaries of the brigades and Divisions in which the different battalions served." Bound in the original blue cloth. From the Foreword: "This volume contains the account of the operations of those of the twenty-five battalions which took an active part in the War. During this period of four years the Devonshire Regiment was awarded the names of sixty-three battles as honours. During the Great War 5787 officers and men of the Regiment gave their lives for the Empire; their graves almost encircle the earth; they lie in France in Belgium in Germany in Italy in Macedonia in Egypt in Palestine in Mesopotamia in India and in Russia.".
