She authored 60 novels which Margaret Oliphant & Charlotte Yonge were said to loathe with this title ". another very feeble story pomposly told" with just enough "spice to keep the pages turning." Feminist Companion to Lit in Eng p. 1073. However Tinsley one of her publishers described her thusly: "a bright merry light-hearted girl and a writer of bright easy-reading fiction of which she could write acres in a short time ." A publisher's dream author it seems though now somewhat faded in current reputation & scholarly attention. This one of her earlier efforts quite scarce in this edition & condition with OCLC showing just 7 institutional holdings none west of the Rockies. Harper & Brothers, Publishers unknown books
