Lower corners bumped. Else minor shelfwear. ; In German with a detailed summary in Turkish. The work examines the literary and archaeological works in order to understand a view on the violence in war in Athens of 6th and 5th centuries BCE. The study starts with the depictions of the Iliad and Iliupersis, which are found extensively in the Attic vase pictures. Due to the increase in the number of finds recently, it is now possible to use statistical methods. The study has yielded that the depiction of war - in the pictures and in evaluation - is not the same at all times. The same point is valid for the other warriors and civilians - the victims of war. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 322 pages

Light shelfwear to book and DJ. ; A tense, powerful, grand account of one of the most daring exploits of World War II. On January 28, 1945, 121 hand-selected troops from the elite U. S. Army 6th Ranger Battalion slipped behind enemy lines in the Philippines. Their mission: March thirty miles in an attempt to rescue 513 American and British POWs who had spent three years in a surreally hellish camp near the city of Cabanatuan. The prisoners included the last survivors of the Bataan Death March left in the camp, and their extraordinary will to live might soon count for nothing—elsewhere in the Philippines, the Japanese Army had already executed American prisoners as it retreated from the advancing U. S. Army. As the Rangers stealthily moved through enemy-occupied territory, they learned that Cabanatuan had become a major transshipment point for the Japanese retreat, and instead of facing the few dozen prison guards, they could possibly confront as many as 8,000 battle-hardened enemy troops. ; 342 pages

xvii, [3], 338 pages. Author spent time in Japan prior to WWII and wrote this book in an effort to aid the democracies in concluding peace in the Pacific at the war's conclusion. He seeks to do this by examining "the developments which led to the outbreak of war in the Pacific after the Japanese army and navy had secured the support of a group of aristocrats, diplomats, politicians and ambitious capitalists whose cowardice and subservience made them as guilty of aggression as the militarists themselves." - from Preface. Former IODE library copy with related internal markings. Average wear. Binding intact. A sound copy of this fascinating work. Book
