Hardcover bound in burgundy quarter cloth with green paper-covered boards. The binding shows heavy wear but is sound. Damping to the lower left corner of the front cover which affects the interior. Heavy pencil scribbling on the endpapers and there is a jagged hole torn in the middle of the portrait frontis. soiling and markings on the title page. The text is toned and foxed and has smudges and stains. The bottom of page 191 is torn away not affecting the text. Scribbling also on the rear pastedown. Not a pretty copy but still an early and important history of Alamance County North Carolina the Battle of Alamance and the Holt family. Sallie Walker Stockard 1869-1963 was born near Saxapahaw North Carolina in Alamance County and was the first woman to receive a degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and it was for this work. <br/> <br/> Capital Printing Company hardcover

Bascom M.D. was also a practicing physician who extolled the health benefits of the Salt Lake City climate the nearby sulphur springs and the waters of the Great Salt Lake.
