Jonathan Bayard Smith 1742-1812 Philadelphia merchant and member of the Continental Congress in 1777-1778 was prothonotary of the Court of Common Pleas for the city and county of Philadelphia from 1777 to 1788 and a justice of that court from 1778 to 1788. Beginning with 1792 he served two years as alderman of Philadelphia and in the latter year was auditor general of Pennsylvania under Gov. Thomas Mifflin. In Good Condition: leather is rubbed with loss at ends of spine and corners; joints are cracked; old dampstain in lower part of pages 189-240; occasional foxing heavier on a few pages; occasional ink notations; otherwise clean and solid.
