Documents accompanying the reports are: A memorial of Americans at Christiansand; a letter from the consul at Christiansand; a list of seized American vessels; a letter from the consul at Copenhagen; resolutions and memorial from merchants at Philadelphia. Also includes on three folding leaves: "Statement of American vessels condemned by the Imperial Council of Prizes at Paris from the 18th of December 1806 to the 26th of May 1809" with longer notes on the most recent captures. Interior pages are clean unmarked and in great condition. <br><br>Official correspondence of France the Secretary of State John Adams and President James Madison regarding the end of the french Berlin and Milan decrees. The decrees forbade the import of British goods into European countries allied with or dependent upon France and installed the Continental System in Europe. The French decrees were enacted to inhibit Britain's ability to trade with other countries. In retaliation the British seized American ships bound for France. This deprived the United States of two major trading partners. After the the War of 1812 between the United States and Britain started France rescind its ban on American ships. A & G. Text from reverse side shows on close examintion. Unmounted under shrinkwrap atop mat board and with cardboard backing. "Cartoonist Thomas Nast established the bounds for Santa Claus' current look with an initial illustration in an 1863 issue of Harper's Weekly as part of a large illustration titled 'A Christmas Furlough'."
