"A card." printed one side announcing the opening of the Clarendon Hotel's Upper Dining Rooms ".for the accommodation of Ladies and their friends between the hours of 12 m. and 3 p.m. during which they will supply their now well-known and superior Table d'Hote Dinners at the usual charge of Fifty cents." The Brownstorner website has an interesting history of the hotel part of which notes that ".The first Clarendon Hotel stood on the corner of Johnson and Washington Streets across from the Central Post Office building. It was damaged in the horrific fire that burned down the Brooklyn Theater next door to the hotel. That fire in 1876 killed over 300 people and was the worst disaster in Brooklyn history."
