A very clean very tight copy with bright unmarked boards, minor sunning and very minor marking to cream vellum spine, marbled end papers, dusty page edges and no bumping to corners. Clear gilt lettering on light brown label on spine. 315pp. Undated ca 1920s. Introduction on 38 pages. The medieval epic tale of Reynard the Fox, first printed by Caxton in the 15the century, here with a text modernised by William Swan Stallybrass and with an Introduction by William Rose. This is followed by the writings of Physiologus translated from the Latin by James Carlill. Lastly there is an extensive Glossary and Notes on Caxton's words and phrases. br. Rocchetta Mattei. Lo storico castello edificato nel 1850 dal Conte Cesare Mattei sulle rovine di un antico maniero risalente al 1200. La storia del conte e del suo affascinante progetto... C'era una volta, non poi così tanto tempo fa, un Conte che tra le colline bolognesi si era fatto costruire un castello fatato nel quale, come i maghi delle favole, accoglieva chiunque avesse bisogno per potergli somministrare la cura che lo avrebbe guarito. Attorno a questo castello aveva costruito un gran numero di ville e case per ospitare i suoi visitatori, che lì attendevano una sua parola e una sua visita; egli, una volta ascoltati i loro problemi, a ciascuno forniva un magico elisir che aveva preparato con le proprie mani e con la scienza segreta che aveva sviluppato attraverso decenni di studi e di ricerche. Nonostante l'invidia e lo scetticismo dei suoi molti detrattori, venivano sin dai paesi più lontani per farsi curare da lui: come i nobili di tutte le grandi famiglie europee, così i poveri di tutta Italia, che non potendo pagarsi né le cure né l'alloggio venivano da lui ospitati gratuitamente.
