Issue de parents héros de la Résistance juive communiste, Goldman se perçoit comme l’héritier de cette « saison infernale », animé par un besoin viscéral de protéger les victimes de l’Histoire et de combattre le Mal. Son parcours, marqué par un militantisme d'extrême gauche, des vols à main armée et deux procès retentissants (condamné en 1974, acquitté en 1976), illustre cette quête obsessionnelle d'égaler ses parents dans une époque qu'il jugeait pacifiée mais injuste. Son assassinat en 1979, jamais élucidé, a laissé une empreinte durable dans la mémoire collective française, telle que décrite par Cixous.
