Nel 1942 Victoria Ocampo annuncia al suo amico Pierre Drieu La Rochelle l'intenzione di porre fine a un'autobiografia del colonnello Lawrence: «In questo momento sono sposata con i "Sette pilastri della saggezza" e con le sue "Lettere", che sto facendo tradurre. Ho già scritto un centinaio di pagine su quest'uomo che mi affascina. Vorrei farlo conoscere ai miei compatrioti e ci riuscirò! T.E.L. mi interessa profondamente perché arriva a conclusioni simili alle mie con un temperamento e per dei percorsi opposti ai miei. Everithing that is, is holy, tutte le cose che esistono sono sacre, come pensava Blake». Pubblicato in patria in quello stesso anno e poi in Inghilterra e in Francia nel 1947, 338171 T.E appare ora per la prima volta in traduzione italiana e per quanto nel mezzo secolo abbondante che ci separa da quella prima uscita la bibliografia intorno a Lawrence sia cresciuta a dismisura, insieme con la revisione storica sulla sua figura e sulla «rivolta araba», l'analisi dell'Ocampo mantiene una freschezza, frutto di un intuito squisitamente femminile, e una profondità che ne fanno un piccolo classico. «Forse il suo torto fu di crogiolarsi nel rifiuto. Ma possiamo chiamare torto ciò che senza dubbio fu il suo dharma? Come quella di Arjuna sul campo di battaglia, la sua anima era sgomenta. Niente poteva dissipare l'ansia che la paralizzava. Come Arjuna, Lawrence non desiderava più né vittoria, né regalità, né voluttà. Era un abitante delle grandi pianure. ill., br. L'esperienza nel campo di Buchenwald, raccontata da Longhetto, traccia un quadro potente della tragedia della deportazione. L'autore illustra il percorso obbligato dell'internato: la descrizione, cruda e oggettiva, è divisa in tre parti. La prima descrive la Quarantena, un periodo di isolamento pensato per prevenire la diffusione di malattie infettive, ma che segna la spersonalizzazione degli individui. Terminata questa fase gli internati vengono assegnati ai block del lager e vengono costretti a lavori forzati, assurdi e umilianti. Nell'ultima parte del racconto Longhetto viene ferito alla testa e portato nel Piccolo campo, dove gli uomini incapaci di lavorare possono solo attendere il crematorio. Il dattiloscritto, ciclostilato in varie copie e inviato a numerose istituzioni, non trova sbocco editoriale, rimanendo sepolto negli archivi fino a quando l'interesse, inaspettatamente, viene riacceso da un quadro enigmatico, datato nel 1948. In questa grande tela conservata all'Istituto Lorgna-Pindemonte, Longhetto si ritrae come deportato, confinato in un angolo del dipinto, mentre il centro della scena è occupato dal preside di una scuola, ex gerarca, impegnato a ricostruirsi un'immagine adeguata ai tempi. Questo dipinto, documento delle contraddizioni del Dopoguerra, ha così consentito di restituire alla memoria una testimonianza straordinaria del campo di Buchenwald.

Unikales genealogisches Dokument mit zwei notariell beglaubigten Übersetzungen des Adelsdiploms für Georg (György) Keszthelyi aus dem Komitat Zala (in der die familiengleichnamige Stadt Keszthely liegt), der, wie hier angegeben, 1712 (richtig laut Nagy 1711) von Kaiser Joseph I. (1705-1711) in den erblichen Adelsstand erhoben wurde. - Inhalt: Den ersten Teil des handschriftlichen Notariatsaktes bildet die deutsche Übersetzung der Urkunde von Joseph I. von 1711 (16 S.). Bemerkenswert ist hier vor allem das halbseitige, mehrfarbig ausgemalte Familienwappen, das einen säbelschwingenden, schnauzbärtigen Honved im Zentrum zeigt. Der zweit Teil des Dokuments besteht aus einer mit Wachssiegel und Stempel beglaubigten deutschen Übersetzung einer ungarischen Urkunde aus dem Jahr 1835, die wiederum über die Präsenz der Familie Keszthely im Temeser Banat (im heutigen Rumänien) verhandelt. - Erhaltung: sauberes Dokument, mit nur geringen Flecken und Papierbräunung. - Quellen: Iván Nagy, Iván; Friebeisz, István: Magyarország családai [Familien von Ungarn], Bde. 5-6 (1859), S. 235 (Erwähnung der Erhebung in den Adelsstand, Beschreibung des Wappens wie hier abgebildet).

Sir Anthony Richard Wagner (1908-1995) was one of the longest-serving members of the College of Arms of the twentieth century, and one of the most prolific authors on heraldry and genealogy. He joined the College in 1931 as Portcullis Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary (in which position he acquired and signed this copy). During the next sixty years or so he occupied most of the major offices, including Richmond Herald (1943) and Garter Principal King of Arms in 1961. In 1978 he retired to the subordinate position of Clarenceux King of Arms and concentrated on the cataloguing of his extensive professional library. Scarce. Cordeaux & Merry 7926.
