Edited by Panayotis C. Christou. Nicholas Kabasilas or Cabasilas, (1319-1392) was a Byzantine mystic and theological writer. Kabasilas is a saint within the Orthodox Church. His feast day is June 20. The Roman Catholic Church uses extracts from his Life in Christ as readings in the Liturgy of the Hours (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of the Fifth Week of Easter in Year II of the two-year cycle for the Office of Readings). He was on intimate terms with the emperor John VI Kantakouzenos, whom he accompanied in his retirement to a monastery. He was once thought to have succeeded his uncle Neilos Kabasilas as archbishop of Thessalonica; however contemporary records of that see do not show Nicholas as serving in the capacity of archbishop. It is more likely that he served as a priest at the Mangana Monastery at Constantinople. In the Hesychast controversy he took the side of the monks of Mount Athos and Saint Gregory Palamas. "Quand on parle des Juifs argentins, nous pensons en général aux colonies agricoles installées et maintenues par le Baron Maurice de Hirsch à travers la Jewish Colonisation Association vers la fin du XIX? siècle. Composant près de 80% des Juifs argentins, la communauté ashkénaze est la plus connue et celle dont l'immigration a été la plus étudiée. Dans le présent ouvrage l'attention est mise sur les Judéo-espagnols d'Orient en tant que groupe à part entière qui mérite une étude dédiée et approfondie. Tous les travaux existants traitent le sujet « séfarade » comme s'il s'agissait d'un seul grand groupe homogène qui partage les mêmes traditions, la même culture. Néanmoins, il s'agit en fait de différents groupes bien distincts, originaires d'aires géographiques différentes, comme l'Afrique du nord, l'Empire ottoman (avec là encore des origines différentes dans l'Empire), l'Italie, le Proche et l'Extrême Orient, etc. L'ouvrage analysera les premières années du développement de ces communautés, les relations qui eurent lieu entre elles et les autres communautés juives, ainsi que leur adaptation à l'Argentine et à la vie sociale et culturelle de Buenos Aires. Notre travail commence en 1876 avec l'arrivée des premiers Juifs non-Ashkénazes en Argentine, les Marocains, à une période importante dans la jeune république où les portes sont grandes ouvertes pour accueillir les immigrants. Enfin, nous nous proposons d'essayer de comprendre la participation exclusive des Judéo-espagnols d'Orient dans le contexte non-ashkénaze argentin.
