First edition of this exceedingly scarce original program for the eighth concert organized by the Portland Philharmonic Society formed in 1866 which would operate until 1874. The evening’s entertainment with local Portland dentist Dr. James Henry Hatch 1839-1921 as conductor reprised the popular Civil War-era cantata The Storm King featuring words by Howard M. Ticknor and music by Benjamin Baker first performed in 1859 in Boston. Maggie Congle Wyatt 1847-1917 continued in the Society and also performed in the concert. Prof. H. Guido Grob fl. 1865-1870 operated a music studio and school in downtown Portland OR at First & Alder from 1865-1870. This program reveals a change in the conducting duties with former conductor James Wyatt replaced with local Portland dentist Dr. James Henry Hatch 1839-1921 who would only live in Portland until 1875 before moving his successful practice to San Francisco CA. Light rub and a slight darkening to the margins; else very close to Fine. This copy has been SIGNED in Irish by Robert Briscoe on the first endpaper and again on the page facing the copyright.The dustjacket is complete and unclipped.
