This is a very good hardcover copy in blue gray cloth covers with the title in gilt on the cover and spine. One tiny flaw: a scratch to the bottom of the spine. Completely clean inside and out. No marks anywhere. Published at Christmas, 1973 and with the publisher's complimentary card laid in. This is a limited edition of 850 copies. Illustrated throughout in color with many examples of Fraktur, Pennsylvania German folk art drawings. 9" high X 11" wide, 103 pages. br. Nell'anno scolastico 1933-34 a Simone Weil fu assegnata la cattedra di filosofia presso il Lycée de Jeunes Filles di Roanne. Ed è proprio dall'incontro tra questa docente e un'alunna prodigiosa, Anne Guérithault e dagli appunti che questa prendeva, che nascono le Lezioni di filosofia. Suddivise in tre ampie sezioni, le lezioni disegnano un originale percorso teoretico, ricco di osservazioni critiche e di riflessioni metodologiche.
br. All'età di sedici anni Simone Weil aveva già le idee chiare. Lo dimostrano questi scritti, tra cui spicca un tema composto al liceo. Weil commenta una vicenda storica: l'imperatore Alessandro è bloccato col suo esercito nel deserto, la stanchezza e la sete prostrano le truppe. Un soldato porta l'ultima acqua rimasta al grande condottiero, ma Alessandro la versa a terra per essere come i suoi soldati. In questo gesto Weil vede la forza dell'assoluto che strappa l'individuo alla sua singolarità e lo fa partecipare all'eterno. Già in questi saggi è presente quella mistica assoluta degli ultimi anni, che fa della voce di Weil un esempio unico nella storia del pensiero contemporaneo. Questi lavori giovanili preannunciano le imprese della filosofa che attraverserà senza risparmiarsi le esperienze della vita quotidiana, che andrà in fabbrica per conoscere la condizione operaia, che si farà investire dagli eventi. A guidarla non è solo il coraggio della gioventù, ma una forza morale che rimane la guida dei suoi anni più maturi.
br. «Viviamo in una società che è diventata una macchina per infrangere i cuori, per schiacciare gli spiriti, per fabbricare incoscienza, stupidità, corruzione»: così scriveva nel 1934 la venticinquenne Simone Weil. In questo nostro tempo di grande disagio, solo la ricerca della verità, fine autentico della vita umana, può dare una risposta allo smarrimento e all'angoscia dell'uomo. La riscoperta della Weil, di cui si propongono alcuni dei testi più noti insieme a una scelta di pensieri dai Cahiers ordinati per temi, è un validissimo aiuto per intraprendere quel cammino interiore che può condurre l'uomo a ritrovare sé stesso, le sue radici e il senso del suo esserci.
br. L'incontro tra Simone Weil e alcuni testi della Grecia antica, innanzitutto l'Iliade, Platone, i pitagorici e i tragici, ha segnato uno dei picchi del secolo scorso. Nulla di quanto la luce della sua mente ha raggiunto è rimasto immutato. In particolare i Vangeli, come se la via regale per capirli non passasse da Gerusalemme, ma da Atene. Il verbo come mediatore, il sovrannaturale e l'innaturale, la bellezza del mondo, il giusto punito, la sventura: sono alcuni dei temi che Simone Weil tratta in questi scritti, non più nella forma altamente condensata dei quaderni, ma in una trattazione distesa, come chiarendo in primo luogo a se stessa le sue abbaglianti intuizioni.
br. «Forse non immagini nemmeno - scriveva Simone Weil all'amica Albertine Thévenon - cosa voglia dire concepire tutta la propria vita davanti a sé e prendere la risoluzione ferma e costante di farne qualcosa, di orientarla da cima a fondo, con la volontà e col lavoro, in un senso determinato». Come testimonia l'ampia scelta di testi proposti in questo volume, la vita di Simone Weil è stata uno sforzo prolungato per dare forma a quel «qualcosa» senza il quale esistere non avrebbe per lei avuto senso. La quantità di problemi sociali, politici, storici, filosofici, religiosi affrontati con estrema lucidità nel vivo dei conflitti, dà la misura del compito che si era prefissa, avendolo precocemente individuato come l'impegno cruciale richiesto dalla crisi epocale dell'Occidente.
