Title is hand inked on the spine. Pages are clean and unmarked. Illustrated with photos in the text and 2 folding maps one in colors. The maps are in perfect condition. Series A Pamphlet 1. Bound in the original off-white wraps printed in black. With the outbreak of World War I in Europe the American government sought to insure a domestic source of nitrates for national defense. Muscle Shoals was selected and that virtually assured the construction of a massive hydroelective dam. Nitrate production there failed because the manufacturing theory was flawed. On November 11 1918 the armistance ending World War I was signed. At that point two plants existed and the dam was 35% complete. The facilities were fenced and left idle until June 1921. Henry Ford offered to purchase the facilities but bid only $5 million in cash for a government investment of almost $110 million. In 1922 the Alabama Power Company offered its first bid for the Muscle Shoals properties. This booklet makes a case to the public for why the Government should reject Ford's offer and accept the Alabama Power Company proposal. First Edition. Softcover. Very Good condition. Illus. by NOT a library discard. 78pp. 2 folding maps. Great Packaging Fast Shipping. Alabama Power Company Paperback
