Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original autograph letter signed as 'Sadi' sent to Vasfi Riza Zobu. 1 p. In Ottoman script. Letterhead 'Ferah: Sinema-varyete-tiyaro'. Dated 31-12-1929, Istanbul. It starts as 'Muhterem Vasfi Riza bey'... Used black ink with fountain pen. It's a letter of appeal. Vasfi Riza Zobu was born on December 5, 1902 in Constantinople, Ottoman Empire. He was an actor, known for Karim beni aldatirsa (1933), Ankara postasi (1928) and Milyon avcilari (1934). He died on November 23, 1992 in Istanbul, Turkey. Aktör Sadi started his art career as a theater actor. He appeared on the stage at school along with Muvahhit (actor, husband of paintress Bedia Muvahhit), writer Refik Halit (Karay) and Refi 'Cevat (Ulunay). After the proclamation of the Second Constitutional Monarchy, he started the professional theater company which was founded by Resat Ridvanand the playwright Ibnürrefik Ahmet Nuri (Sekizinci). Bican Efendi series, in which he played the title role after the WW 1, was accepted from the first comedy of Turkish cinema history.

Semiha Berksoy was a Turkish opera singer and painter. Berksoy started her acting career in the role of Semiha in the first Turkish sound movie Istanbul Sokaklarinda directed by Muhsin Ertugrul in 1931. She was cast in operettas in Istanbul theaters early in her career. She sang in the first Turkish opera Özsoy in 1934 (commissioned by Kemal Atatürk, composed by Adnan Saygun). She was honored as the First Turkish Opera Singer and awarded the opportunity to go to Berlin Music Academy for further training. She started her international singing career in 1934, performing in Turkey, Germany, and Portugal, becoming known as a Wagnerian soprano. In 1939, for the 75th birthday of Richard Strauss in Berlin, she sang the role of Ariadne in Ariadne Auf Naxos, becoming the first Turkish prima donna to perform on stage in Europe. Back in Turkey, she worked with Carl Ebert helping him in his efforts to create the Turkish State Opera and Ballet. This initiative leads to the creation of the Experimental Stage of the Ankara State Conservatory 1940. She retired from the Istanbul Opera in 1972. She was decorated with the "Atatürk Opera Award" at the 50th-anniversary ceremonies commemorating the introduction of women's rights to vote and to be elected. She received the title of "State Artist" in Turkey in 1998. Following her retirement, she remained active mostly as a theater artist. Four years preceding her death, at the age of 90, she appeared in a dramatic scene singing Liebestod in Robert Wilson's opera The Days Before: Death, Destruction and Detroit III at the Lincoln Center in New York City (1999).

In 8° grande; 42, (2) pp. e una c. di tav. fuori testo. La pagina non numerata 5-6 è un foglio più corto di margini che contiene una citazione di De Mosel. L'opera è dedicata a Liszt. Brossura editoriale con titolo, autore e stampatori impressi in nero, entro cornice al piatto anteriore. Rinforzo al dorso. La tavola fuori testo contiene una partitura musicale di Mozart. Alla seconda pagina bianca, note antiche biografiche di Mozart chiosate a matita da mano coeva. Un leggerissimo alone al margine alto e nel complesso, esemplare in buone condizioni di conservazione. Prima rara edizione di questa “memoria” dedicata all'opera musicale e alla vita del grande compositore e musicista austriaco, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Salisburgo, 27 gennaio 1756 – Vienna, 5 dicembre 1791). Il volume contiene anche la traduzione di alcune lettere originali di Mozart ed è scritto da Pietro Lichtenthal, nato a Preßbourg (l'attuale Bratislava) il 10 maggio 1780. Lo scritto vide la luce nel 1842 in occasione dell'inaugurazione della monumento a Mozart inaugurato a Salisburgo nel settembre del 1842. Lichtenthal si laureò in medicina nel 1810 presso l'ateno viennese e si trasferì, poi, a Milano dopo poco tempo. Qui arrivò a ricoprire la carica di cesore del regno Lombardo-Veneto e vi risiedette fino alla sua morte avvenuta nella notte del 18 agosto del 1853. Personaggio di estrema ed eclettica erudizione, fu autore musicale apprezzato (ad esempio 7 suoi balletti vennero rappresentati alla Scala) e di diverse opera di critica musicale e di tecnica musicale. Non dimenticò nemmeno la sua natura di medico, pubblicando un interessante studio di musicoterapia. Scrisse anche di geografia, astronomia e botanica. Grande estimatore della musica di Mozart, scrisse alcuni studi su di lui e partecipò a farne conoscere il lavoro, negli ambienti milanesi. Quest'opera e' discretamente rara. Rif.
