Walter Libuda war 1968?71 Theatermaler am Landestheater Altenburg. 1973?78 studierte er an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig. Von 1978 bis 1979 war er Meisterschüler bei Bernhard Heisig. Auf das Studium folgte von 1979 bis 1985 eine Tätigkeit als Assistent an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig. Ab 1985 lebte Libuda in Berlin. Walter Libuda war seit 1991 Mitglied des Künstlerverbandes Neue Gruppe München. Dem Deutschen Künstlerbund[1] gehört er seit 1992 an und seit 1998 ist er Mitglied der Sächsischen Akademie der Künste. 1999 erhielt Walter Libuda den Fred Thieler Preis für Malerei der Berlinischen Galerie und 2000 wurde ihm der Gerhard-Altenbourg-Preis des Lindenau-Museums Altenburg verliehen. Seit 2004 lebte Libuda in Schildow bei Berlin."
