Bindings with light wear to hinges, so that the cords are occasionally showing, and some cracking of leather at upper and lower compartment, but binding tight. A little wear to spine ends, otherwise fine. Ediz. orig. In-4°; pp. 7, (1), al frontespizio un legno raffigura la cupola di Santa Maria del Fiore a Firenze; un capolettera inciso su legno, alcune note manoscritte. Legatura in cartonato colorato. L’opera è dedicata a Filippo Valori, l'ambasciatore fiorentino del papa. Edizione originale, assai rara. L'opuscolo di Franscesco Bocchi prende spunto dall'episodio di un fulmine abbattutosi sulla cupola di Santa Maria del Fiore a Firenze, per indirizzare il suo racconto sul tema del restauro di quello che era considerato il manufatto simbolo della città. Sebbene pubblicato solo nel 1604 la lettera è datata in calce Firenze Febbraio 1600, subito dopo che la lanterna era stata danneggiata. Il restauro di quella fu affidato a Gherardo Mechini, che lo completò in un tempo assai breve; utilizzò un complesso sistema di ponteggi e dispositivi di sollevamento. In un contesto di generale esaltazione della storia dell’arte fiorentina, in queste pagine si leggono parole di estrema lode per la bellezza e lo splendore della cupola e della lanterna, un'opera di altissimo ingegno la cui maestà suscita in chi la guarda "primo laetitia, deinde, cum appropinquant, admiratio, postremo stupor". L'esaltazione si estende ovviamente all'artefice, Filippo Brunelleschi, che, si dice, esprime la razionalità nell'arte attraverso l'esempio degli antichi. A sostegno di una teoria che esalta le origini del rinascimento fiorentino, Bocchi sembra chiamare in causa anche Michelangelo Buonarroti "iure optimo" che, accingendosi alla costruzione della cupola del Sacrario Laurenziano, afferma, rispondendo a chi glielo chiedeva, che nessun architetto aveva fatto di meglio dopo l'artificio di Filippo. Francesco Bocchi (1548-1618) fu un erudito italiano che, soggiornando a Firenze, scrisse una guida delle bellezze della città di Firenze, e fu autore anche di un'opera sulla musica e di una sulla statua di San Giorgio di Donatello. Filippo Brunelleschi (1377-1446), architetto, ingegnere escultore fiorentino, attende ai lavori della cupola del Duomo di Firenze a partire dal 1418 e fino alla sua morte, al principio offrendo la sua consulenza per risolvere la soluzione della costruzione della cupola assieme al Ghiberti e a Battista d'Antonio, in qualità di "provveditore alla costruzione della cupola". La cupola presentava un tamburo ottagono che insisteva su una struttura gotica, il cui sistema di forze Brunelleschi volle coordinare e risolvere, attraverso la cupola, nella lanterna che la chiude.
Capsule, metabolism, spaceframe, metamorphose by Kisho Kurokawa (other title Kisho Kurokawa: his work), was published by Bijitshu Shopansha, Tokyo, in 1970, the same year as Expo’70 in Osaka. Primarily a visual scrapbook with a mix of Western Victorian-style graphics with traditional Japanese imagery and text, the book consists of images that show the construction of the pavilions at the Expo, as well as drawings and photographs of models that illustrate the use of prefabricated parts and a space frame. The book, which measures 27 cm x 37 cm, came with a large folded poster (see image) as well as a 7 inch vinyl record entitled ‘Music for living space’. The record can be listened on youtube, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsqazgILD9M As well as documenting the pavilions at Expo’70, the book includes some of Kurokawa’s earlier work such as designs for flats and other housing, the Seattle Civic Center Fountain competition of 1961, office buildings, town planning schemes and hotels. As the elements of architecture are related to the human body, they are also interlinked with the biological concept, the idea that architecture and cities can behave like living organisms. Kisho Kurokawa was one of the founders of the Japanese Metabolist Movement in 1960. Petit manque de cuir à la coiffe du tome I, coins émoussés, épidermures sur les plats des tomes I et III, manque la pièce de tomaison du tome III. Malgré les défauts signalés, très bon exemplaire, intérieur très frais, bien complet. Tome I : Traité de l'attaque des places : Faux-titre, titre, xl pages, épitre de Vauban à Mgr le Duc de Bourgogne, préface, éloge de Mr le Maréchal de Vauban prononcé à l'Académie des Sciences en 1707 par Mr de Fontenelle, table des chapitres, 262 pages, bien complet des 29 planches gravées. La planche 14 présente un petit manque de papier marginal n'atteignant pas la gravure, pas même l'encadrement. Tome II : Traité de la défense des places, ouvrage original de M. de Vauban : Faux-titre, page de titre à la date de 1779, second faux-titre, seconde page de titre. A Paris chez Charles Antoine Jombert père 1769. xvi pages, avertissement et table des articles, 3 pages pour l'approbation du 12 avril 1769 à Versailles et le Privilège du Roi du 10 mai 1769. 334 pages pour les trois parties de ce Traité incluant la table alphabétique raisonnée des matières et l'avant propos, une page pour les additions, corrections et l'avis au relieur. Bien complet des 15 tables dépliantes et des 9 planches dépliantes gravées. La troisième partie contient Le Discours sur la Défense des Places par Deshouilleres, publié avec des notes critiques de Vauban. EO pour ce Traité. Tome III : Traité théorique et pratique des mines : Joint un Traité de la guerre en général, comprenant les qualités et les devoirs des gens de guerre, depuis le Général jusqu'au soldat et des règles sur les principales opérations militaires par un Officier de distinction. Faux-titre, page de titre, xx pages, préface de l'éditeur et table, 60 + 243 pages. Le Traité des Mines est divisé en deux parties. Complet des 18 planches dépliantes. Ex-libris manuscrit Geouffre, Adjudant Général sur les 3 pages de titre. Notes manuscrites du temps en marges de certains chapitres, parfois importantes et anecdotiques, réflexions du plus grand intérêt, n'altérant en rien l'ouvrage. En résumé bel ensemble, parfaitement complet.

(dont 1 f. de titre, 8 ff. de texte - dont un imprimé recto-verso -, dernier feuillet blanc et 30 planches gravées sur cuivre par Hondius) Rare exemplaire de la seconde édition parue sous ce nouveau titre, trois ans après l'édition publiée en 1617 et dix ans après l'édition originale de la traduction française parue sous le titre de "La Haulte & fameuse science consistante, en cincq manières d'édifices ou fabriques [ ... ]". Notre exemplaire de cet important ouvrage d'architecture est parfaitement complet, avec ses 30 planches gravées par Hondius. Vredeman (1527-1607) développa l'emploi de la perspective linéaire dans le monde flamand. Una tavola leggermente lacunosa.Frontespizio marginalmente restaurato, alle prime e ultime carte restauro al margine interno, non c’è perdita di testo. Legatura in cartonato rigido moderno. Edizione originale della storia di Verona di Sarayna, celebrata anche per il ricco e affascinante apparato iconografico, opera del pittore veronese Giovanni Caroto, che ritrae monumenti, antichità e la pianta della città. Un raro trattato cinquecentesco sulle antichità al di fuori di Roma, pubblicato nello stesso anno del trattato del Serlio.Nel De origine, sotto il grande ritratto al verso del frontespizio,è un’iscizione indirizzata al lettore in cui si dice che un tale Sebastiano Serlio, “quidam Sergius”, nella sua opera aveva riprodotto in maniera non corretta, perché non li aveva visti, alcuni monumenti veronesi. Il volto dell’uomo di profilo potrebbe aecondo alcuni essere di Serlio stesso.

COMPLETE. About a third of each plate is devoted to the floor-plans of the house in question. Printed on very fine bright white wove paper. Aside from being an architectural and art-historical document of the first order of importance, this set of lithographs is a work of great artistic merit and beauty. Folio.
