Folio in color illus jacket (black spine with white titling); 284 pages : chiefly color illustrations, plans ; 32 cm. Includes bibliographical references (pages 282-284) Supremely scarce for a book published not so long ago. "The work of Hugh Newell Jacobsen, one of America's most acclaimed architects, is infused with a rare sense of clarity and elegance. He his best known for his modern pavilion-based residences - compositions of simple, gabled forms that are rectangular in plan. Unlike other second-generation modernist architects who revised the iconic European houses of the 1920s or the American Shingle Style of the nineteenth century, Jacobsen draws on inspiration from the vernacular architecture of the American homestead. His grand yet intimately scaled pavilions recall the barns, detached kitchens, and smokehouses - the outbuildings of rural America." "This volume presents the architect's most recent work, including houses, university projects, and a winery, and offers a definitive look at the architect's mature skill and refined taste." "An introduction by architecture critic Paul Goldberger explores Jacobsen's significance in the world of architecture today."--Jacket. || Contents: Rich house 1993 -- Segal house 1994 -- McKinney house 1994 -- Clarke house 1995 -- Doerfer house 1996 -- Welles house Windsor I 1997 -- Nef house 1997 -- LIFE dream house 1998-2003 -- Welles house Casa de Campo 2000 -- Wilks house 2001 -- Southern Vermont Arts Center 2001 -- Scheer house 2002 -- Voorhees house 2002 -- Mayerson house 2002 -- Segal house in Snowmass 2003 -- A house in Nantucket 2003 -- Fletcher house 2003 -- The Mary and Howard Lester wing University of Oklahoma 2004 -- Samuel Riggs IV alumni center University of Maryland 2004 -- Tahir house 2005 -- Rivers house 2004 -- Welles house Windsor II 2006 -- Boxwood Winery 2006. || Architecture -- United States -- History -- 20th century. (Brunet, I, 1127. Cicognara Library, 820).

Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) An extremely rare litho propaganda map published as an extra supplement to the Tercümân-i Hakîkat [i.e. The Translator of Truth] newspaper just before the proclamation of Republic in Turkey in 1923 by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (1881-1938), showing the front in West Anatolia during the War of Independence (or National Struggle) between 1919-1922 against Greek forces. The upside of the map between the note as title 'Gift to the readers of 'Tercümân-i Hakîkat', Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's portrait among decorated heroic lithographed drawings. In the lower right corner, can be seen legends of the map, scale, and mapmaker's signature. Tercümân-i Hakîkat was a daily newspaper published in Istanbul between 1878-1921 during the Ottoman Empire. Tercüman-i Hakîkat, the most important newspaper published during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II, was founded by novelist Ahmed Midhat Efendi, (1844-1912). In the beginning, most of the articles were written by Ahmed Midhat Efendi. It was an encyclopedic newspaper with the aim of inculcating and educating reading habits among the Turks and it played an important role in the training of many famous Ottoman journalists. Its first issue was published on June 26, 1878. After Ahmed Midhat's death in 1913, the newspaper changed owners, and the last issue was published on February 11, 1921. Ibrahim Alaettin Gövsa, (1889-1949), was an Ottoman / Turkish journalist, educator, and intellectual who supported the War of Independence the most. This propaganda map published in Tercümân-i Hakîkat, during the war in 1920 or 1921, is a propaganda tool that calls on the literate people belonging to a certain class, especially those living in Istanbul, to support the war, and aims to spread the word that Turkey is winning the war. Original lithograph map. 50x35,5 cm. In Ottoman script (Turkish with Arabic letters). Scale: 1: 250.000. Occasionally foxing and slight stains on paper, folded traces. Otherwise a very good copy.
4to, vii, [1] + 8pp., of publishers' catalogue at end, engraved title and 64 engraved plates by Thomas Langley after Batty Langley ( (numbered I-LXII, A, B), title lightly browned with a early plan of a house sketched in pencil to verso, occasional spotting or soiling, minor pinhole worming to blank lower inner corner of last 8 plates, recent full calf, cover slightly stained, black spine morocco label lettered in gilt. First published as 'Ancient Architecture, Restored and Improved' (London: 1742) and re-issued under this title. A pioneering work, simultaneously of the Gothic revival and the Rococo style. Batty Langley (1696-1751) was in no sense a student of genuine medieval style, and instead pursued a wonderfully inventive scheme to fuse the gothic with the classical, creating the five new gothic orders of architecture illustrated in this work. Langley's work has proved immensely influential. Bound in at the rear: An 8 page catalogue of "A Catalogue of Modern Books on Architecture... on sale at Taylor's Architectural Library", c. 1800. Archer 172.3; Harris 411; RIBA 1727.

The unique selection from The Suna and Inan Kiraç Foundation Photography Collection reveal the magnificent structures, the daily life and the intriguing personalities of a past Istanbul. Istanbul has evolved into an industrial city and an enormous metropolis: its silhouette, architecture, vehicles, bridges, quays, streets and public spaces have attained an entirely different appearance. Masters such as James Robertson, Félice Beato, Pascal Sébah, Polycarpe Joaillier, Abdullah Brothers, Guillaume Berggren, Bogos Tarkulyan, Mihran Iranian and Gülmez Brothers, not only document the nostalgic images of the city during their time, but also took us along a pleasant journey extending from Karaköy to Rumelifeneri through photographs taken with the difficult and onerous techniques of the time.

This massive catalogue of electric light fixtures is printed upon glossy stock and includes 284 fifteen by twelve inch black and white photographic plates, numbered 222 through 506, each proudly displaying an average of three models for a total of over eight-hundred different offerings, complete with pricing, dimensions and other details. In -4°, pp. (32), 78, (14). Second edition: interesting work on practical rules, oriented to the construction, maintenance, restore of churches. Cavaglieri (1649-1705) was a bishop since 1690, and he was an esteemed theologist, generous writer not only in religious matters. The volume can be considered adjacent to the important work of Carlo Borromeo, whose “Instructionum fabricae”, from 1577, was fundamental for projects, architecture and decoration of churches and catholic places of worship.
