The full-page illustrations are of the Brewers' Industrial Exhibition Main Exhibition Building Machinery Hall Horticultural Hall Agricultural Hall and the Art Gallery. The rear panel of the wrapper includes a list of committee members of the various departments including Malt Liquor Machinery Maltsters and Hops. In exchange for an annual fee of five dollars the subscriber received an engraving equal to the value of the subscription as well as the opportunity for an American student to study in Europe for two years subsidized by the Union. The final two pages advertise the engravings held by the Art-Union. Among those listed under the "Committee of Reference" are Washington Irving and N.P. Ellis. unknown books

In holograph on the lower margin is " At Brennan & Davis' Monday & Tuesday Apr 20th & 21st." Faint foxing else very good. The firm of Radtke Lauckner & Co. were publishers and importers of etchings engravings and photographs located at 6 East 18th Street New York during the 1890's. Apparently they arranged traveling exhibitions of their wares at various locations; this elaborate invitation was for a showing at Brennan & Davis' a jewelry stationary and book store in Bradford Pennsylvania. <br/><br/> Radtke, Lauckner & Co unknown books

D17552Autograph diary written in pencil signed by Miss Elizabeth Woods of Bowling Green Kentucky. 135 pp. Well educated wealthy American woman's account of seeing Europe; mostly Paris France. Her Southern sensibilities were shocked at seeing a white woman at the same table with a black man. Turns out he was a minister from Haiti and the lady was his wife. Miss Woods saw the Paris Exposition several times; saw Sarah Bernhardt perform; saw President Kruger of South Africa; saw a street where Jews were not allowed to come out after 6pm; describes fancy balls and dinners; shopping for clothes.much of interest. Accompanied by a commemorative silver salver try from the Columbian Exposition and featuring an image of the Women's Building. As part of the Columbian Exposition a world's fair hosted in 1893 the Women's Congress convened to establish a building constructed by and for women to promote the work of women architects artists writers and entrepreneurs. Touted as "the greatest event of its kind in history" the Women's Congress released these commemorative pieces to spread awareness and raise profits to support women's work. unknown books
1911100851Souvenir pamphlet 8vo colored printed pictorial wrappers illustrated 16 pp. Folded and creased down the middle with a little wear at the fold some minor rubbing to wrappers normal aging; otherwise very good. This is a scarce piece of ephemera commemorating the 1911 groundbreaking ceremony by President William H. Taft for the exhibition in the Golden Gate Park. While the purpose of the exhibition was to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal it seemed to function more as a worlds fair held in San Francisco. It took over three years to construct and the exhibition ran from February through December 1915. There are a number of black and white photographs in the booklet including a double page panoramic view of the city of San Francisco. The activities of the ceremony are recorded in this pamphlet which feature speakers songs marches and what they had for dinner Blair-Murdock Co., books

Neatly rebacked; some spotting and soiling to boards spine cloth slightly dulled. Endpapers soiled with faint marginal tidemark to preliminary leaves but in all a tight complete Very Good copy. Ownership signature on front endpaper of a William John Lafferty Belfast dated 1866. <br/><br/>A significant work infrequent in commerce. Especially valuable for its coverage of early railway technology an area in which the author was himself expert as he had served as a Consulting Engineer for the Great North of Scotland Railway as early as 1853. The book's four divisions - Railways; Textile Machinery; Metal and Wood Manufacturing Machinery; and "Machinery in General" are each profusely illustrated with both text figures and folding plates.
