19144774Mainz : Schott ; Frankfurt am Main : mit Genehmigung des Verlags Friedrich Hormeister 1911 1914 1914. Hardcover. Very Good. 295 pp. ; Edition Schott; 4055 ; hrsg. von Hans Breuer unter Mitw. vieler Wandervögel ; M. Genehmigung d. Verl. Friedrich Hofmeoster Leipzig ; OCLC: 176910724 ; This distinctly German songbook was published by the physician Hans Breuer who in 1904 as a medical student influenced by the then-popular Wandervogel movement began wandering the countryside in his free time gathering folk songs. By 1908 he had published the first set of these in Darmstadt as Der Zupfgeigenhansl or "The Pick-Fiddle John". The publishing history of Der Zupfgeigenhansel is extremely convoluted but in later editions the collection usually contains about 260 songs and is divided into 16 themes: Parting -- Minnedienst or Chivalry -- Love Plaints -- Ballads -- Sacred Songs -- Evensongs -- Joy -- Summer -- Journeying Songs -- Sea Songs -- Parlor Songs -- Soldier's Songs -- Festive Songs -- Rural Songs -- Dance -- Rounds. A number of the songs in these later editions were gathered from song collecting in the field others were collected from older published sources but the main source was the songbooks published by Böhme as well as works by Herder Zuccalmaglio's German Folksongs and some from Das Knaben Wunderhorn by Brentano and Arnim plus the Deutschen Liederhort by Erk and Böhme. Also the older manuscript sources like the Carmina Burana or the Lochamer Liederbuch have contributed a few items. ; German contents : Abschied -- Minnedienst -- Liebesklage -- Balladen -- Geistliche -- L ieder -- Am -- Abend -- Freude -- Sommerlust -- Auf -- der -- Landstraße -- Auf -- Schiffen -- und -- Rollwägen -- Spinnstube -- Soldatenlieder -- Schlemmlieder -- Beim -- Bauer -- Tanz -- Schnurren ; text in German ; yellow cloth with black letteri ng and design ; illustrated throughout with silhouettes by Hermann Pfeiffer ; spine a little worn else VG

Mainz : Schott ; Frankfurt am Main : mit Genehmigung des Verlags Friedrich Hormeister, [1911, 1914] hardcover

Above all and with that exceptional streak of modernity which characterises much of Wilde's life and works he understood the power of the image in his campaign of promoting himself. As early as his Oxford days he had himself photographed with his contemporaries in loud check suits of the latest fashion. Later when he toured America to lecture on aesthetics in 1882 almost as soon as he landed he commissioned Napoleon Sarony the best portraitist in New York to photograph him in fur coat and velvet suit; and in not one or two poses but at least twenty-seven. The Wilde Album now publishes more of these images of Oscar than have ever been seen together before as well as later photographs some previously unpublished from the family archive showing Oscar his family and his friends. There are also rare snapshots of Oscar in his last years in Italy taken most probably by a friend using Oscar's own camera which we know he owned from a letter of 1900." ; black cloth in color photographic dustjacket ; "The most comprehensive collection of photographs and images of Wilde--compiled by his only grandson." ; "Merlin Holland is a journalist and has spent the last twenty years researching his grandfather's life.
