Lathrop 1891-1980 is best remembered as the very successful illustrator for Hitty Her First Hundred Years which won the 1929 Newbery Award as well as authored and illustrator of the 1931 Fairy Circus which was a Newbery Runner-up and one the inaugural Caldecott Medal award for her 1938 Animals of the Bible. Spine with raised bands each with gilt piping. Compartments double ruled lettered and decorated in gilt. White vellum inlay on the front cover incorporated into a gilt reproduction of the well known original design used on the cloth bound copies of this volume within a double ruled border edge. Rear board with gilt double ruled line border. Gilt inner dentelles. Silk endpapers. All edges gilt. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a master bookbinder. It is possible that this volume was bound for the publisher's salesmen of the Studio as a promotional tool.</p> Offices of the Studio. London. 1895 hardcover

A yearly review of decorative arts and architecture with artists and artists often representing Art Nouveau or Arts and Crafts inspired work. The Studio was published from 1906 to 1925 in yearly editions before changing names. Includes designs by Charles Mackintosh designs of country houses by W.H. Bidlake Detmar Blow James Ransome and many others; a piece decorated by Jessie M. King etc. GOOD condition. Some soiling with the covers appearing slightly grubby. Minor toning. Light scuffing to the extremities. The Studio, Publisher unknown
