The partially-printed note entitles the bearer to two hundred dollars plus 5% interest payable in gold dust one month hence. Barton Lee and Baker & Company was a popular Sacramento bank. California would become a state seven weeks later on September 9 1850. This interesting piece of California Gold Rush memorabilia is in very good condition with light wear. unknown

These are printed in red & black have the tax stamps on the margins of the title pages and are of 32 pages' length with exceptions or notes as below: 1782: On page 31 the section "VI Rebus by Mr. R. Richardson of Frosterly" has been solved with the manuscript letters & names of clues neatly written at the margins. 1786: pgs 1-2 15-32; However another issue is bound after this incomplete issue that is entire in 48 pages. These almanacs are noted on the title pages as printed for the Company of Stationers; and this "extra" issue is noted on the title page as "Printed for T. Carnan in St. Paul's Church Yard; who after an expensive Suit in Law and Equity by the unanimous Opinion of the Judges of the Court of Common Please dispossessed the Stationers' Company of their pretended exclusive Privilege of Printing Almanacks which they had usurped for two Centuries; a convincing Proof that no unjust Monopoly will ever stand the Test of an English Court of Justice." 1788: pgs 1-2 15-32 only. 1793 Misbound pages out of order and complete 32 pages. 1795: A name of "Old Batholomew" has been added in ms. at the 4th Sept. in the monthly almanac pages section. 1797 pgs 1-16 only. Lithographed softcovers front cover art w/ gold-tinted embellishments of The Largest Gold Nugget discovered by George W. Carmack from No. 8 El Dorado map on back cover execured by Warren C. Wilkins of the gold stikes in the Yukon chipping edgewear some scuffing closed tear neatly repaired rebacked still VG- copy from the library of Gary Kurutz. First Shorey Book’s edition of this famed Klondike gold rush promotional magazine originally published in Dawson N.W.T. & San Francisco CA which was projected to be published quarterly however Moore and his partners Charles Meadows & Wilkins were later sued in Nov. 1898 and appear to have been driven out of business in the Yukon. The impossibly scarce original publication issued April 1st 1898 touted all of the major gold strikes heretofore made in the Alaska-Yukon Territories the potential for land development nicely illustrated with photographs and copies were embellished with gold ink arching over mushers and gold miners. The last copy to appear at auction was in 1969 in the famed Streeter sale 3586 and the copy used to create this fine lithographed reproduction was oend by Dorothy Pattinson of Fairbanks AK who at the time had loaned it to the Pullen Alaska Museum’s Klondike Exhibit at the Seattle Center Food Circus balcony on the grounds of the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair. Captain Batty was an officer who served with the 1st Grenadier guards and he fought with the 3rd battalion at Quatre Bras. His battalion played an important role at Waterloo and served in the occupation of France. He made sketches and etched the plates in this work. His work was exhibited at the Royal Academy and his drawing of buildings showed a remarkable understanding of architectural principles. Handsomely bound in maroon straight grained morocco both boards with corners decoratively stamped in gilt within gilt frame raised bands and lettering gilt all other compartments fully gilt decorated all edges gilt light scattered marginal foxing joints strengthened.
