Water Francis Brown was born in Providence RI. He was a painter and illustrator whose specialty was scenes of Venice. He graduated from Brown University in 1873 and studied in Paris. Other pieces include "Princeton" "The Hudson" "Christ" "The Burning of the Brooklyn Theatre" etc. A fine bright copy with just a touch of wear at the extrems all gilt still bright. The author Lindley Miller Keasbey 1867-1946 graduated with honors from Harvard and Columbia's Law School and School of Political Science M.A. and Ph.D. It was while teaching at the University of Colorado that he published THE NICARAGUA CANAL AND THE MONROE DOCTRINE. A German edition appeared first. He became friends with the future president Woodrow Wilson from which came Keasbey's appointment at Bryn Mawr. In 1905 he moved to the University of Texas as head of the Political Science program. He proved enormously popular with the students in Texas. Walter Prescott Webb claimed that Keasbey was the best professor he ever had and that he had learned more from Keasbey than all from his other professors combined. See: Handbook of Texas Online.
