Tagli rossi e sguardie marmorizzate policrome. Numerose figure silografiche e tabelle di computi intercalate n.t. Annotazioni di calcoli aritmetici di mano antica alla prima carta bianca. Altre annotazioni al verso dell'ultimo foglio bianco. Alcune bruniture marginali, ma esemplare ottimamente conservato. Seconda edizione (la prima è del 1699) di questo importante e rigoroso trattato di agrimensura del matematico Ozanam (Bouligneux, 1640-Parigi, 1717). Ebreo convertito al cristianesimo (appartenne alla stessa famiglia in cui vedrà la luce Frédéric Ozanam), autore di un trattato di matematica già alla precoce età di 15 anni, fu professore a Parigi e a Lione dopo aver abbandonato la carriera ecclesiastica cui il padre lo aveva destinato e, dal 1701, membro dell'Accademia delle Scienze. Fontenelle scrisse un elogio in suo onore (Eloge de M. Ozanam, in Histoire et mémoires de l'Académie des sciences 1717,111) e i suoi numerosi libri sui logaritmi, la gnomonica, le equazioni, il compasso, la trigonometria, l'algebra, alcuni dei quali encomiati nientemeno che dal grande Leibniz, si segnalano per acume e novità di analisi non meno che per perspicuità di stile. Seguono quesiti di vario genere: Cambio di Londra con Barcellona, Cambio di Venetia con Valenza ecc. Della societa' di bestiami, Della compagnia, Baratti ecc. Nella parte finale fornisce le istruzioni per trovare le radici quadrate e ricavare le misure di superfici di varie forme, altezze ecc. With 56pp publisher's catalogue bound in at end. Written for the use of junior officers of the Royal Engineers and those of the Honourable East India Company's Service, Frome's extensive treatise was first published from REE Chatham in 1839. Its value as a standard text was swiftly recognised in both military and civilian sectors and the third edition was exhausted by 1862. This is the fourth (first Warren) edition, considerably expanded as well as revised. A lovely copy.
