The chromolithographs illustrate Coffee Jell-O Orange Jell-O Raspberry Jell-O a collection of attractively plated Jell-O desserts on the centerfold Peach Jell-O with a racist Mammy image of "Aunt Dinah" saying she "never made nothin' better'n dat" Lemon Jell-O and Jell-O Ice Cream Powder. The rear panel of the wrapper depicts "The house that Jell-O built" - the Jell-O factory - encased in yellow gelatin on a cut-crystal serving platter. Many recipes included. Pages 26-55 remain intact with indices of business houses of Boston New York Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with maps showing locations. Interspersed are advertisements. Page 56-finis are forty-nine handwritten recipes ranging from fly-paper and taffy to sausages and Dutch apple pie. Though various inks are used appears to be the same author. Boards are discolored and binding is quite shaken. Fair condition. hardcover books

A promotional cookbook for the patent medicines of Healy & Bigelow's Kickapoo Indian Medicine Company featuring over one hundred seventy simple recipes for beverages biscuits candy cakes fish meat pastry poultry puddings soup stews and vegetables interspersed with information about Kickapoo Indian oil salve and other products. Also included are narratives on Indian culture wildly racist but of the era. John H. Healy and Charles Bigelow began their company in the late 1870s promoting their "traditional" Indian medicines with traveling medicine shows that capitalized on the public's nostalgia for the the Wild West. In orange wrappers with hole punch and ribbon to top left corner some slight discoloration to wrapper otherwise very good. OCLC locates seven copies. Healy & Bigelow Publishers unknown books

Invented in the late 19th century America's introduction to Vegex née Marmite was in 1913. The introductory text heralds the "health- and strength-building" properties of this distinctive and powerfully flavored food spread and its crucial role for British troops in World War I. Approximately seventy-five recipes all containing Vegex from Milk Vegex drink and Scotch Broth to Curry Sauce Paprika Goulash and Vegex Caviar. Though "the richest known food in vitamin B" it is noted clearly that "Vegex is food not medicine". A few small spots and two small pinholes to front wrap text clean and otherwise very good.
