Salt's 'Richard Jefferies. A Study' was first published by Swan Sonnenschein in 1894. In 1905 Fifield re-issued the work under the present title without the portrait and bibliographical appendix, but with a new preface. John Williams Gunnison (1812-1853) was an American military officer and explorer.In 1849 he was second-in-command of the Stansbury Expedition to the West. That winter was particularly harsh and the expedition was put on hold until the spring. Gunnison made use of the time to befriend and study the culture of the Mormon inhabitants of the Salt Lake Valley. Gunnison was later killed on the 26th of October 1853, near Delta, Utah, purportedly by Indians in what is known as the Gunnison Massacre. **PRICE JUST REDUCED! RELIGION BX 12
