Otherwise text is clean and unmarked except for one ink notation. A record of doctors who practised in Ontario County including the Whitby and Oshawa hospitals in the 19th and early twentieth centuries with brief biographical information for each somewhat more detailed for the earlier doctors. The theme of rationalism mixed with irrationality later became central to many of Kazantzakis's later stories characters and personal philosophies. Later in 1909 he wrote a one-act play titled Comedy which was filled with existential themes predating the post-Second World War existentialist movement in Europe spearheaded by writers like Jean-Paul Sartre and Camus. This study was issued as information and had not been adopted by the Interstate Commerce Commission ICC when published. The ICC was a regulatory agency in the United States created by the Interstate Commerce Act of 1887. The agency's original purpose was to regulate railroads and later trucking to ensure fair rates to eliminate rate discrimination and to regulate other aspects of common carriers including interstate bus lines and telephone companies. Congress expanded ICC authority to regulate other modes of commerce beginning in 1906. The agency was abolished in 1995 and its remaining functions were assigned to the Surface Transportation Board. The Commission's five members were appointed by the President and confirmed by the United States Senate. This was the first independent agency or so-called fourth Branch. The "gray area" as used in this staff study of the Commission refers to transport operations which lie between legitimate private carrier and the transportation authorized by Government regulatory bodies. Thus the term is used to denote unauthorized transport operations often conducted under the guise of legitimate private carriage. This study deals with the character extent and distribution of gray area operations in highway transportation and other modes; important effects of gray area operations on the transportation system; enforcement activities of the Commission; and certain suggestions which have been made for remedial action. It also contains general information concerning exempt transportation although operations by exempt carriers unless the operations are unauthorized do not fall in the gray area as defined. U. S. The drawing is boldly inscribed as if Hazel has spoken the words "Love That Doug!" at top left of the image. The sketch is dated at bottom right "July 21 1976" and further inscribed & signed "Best wishes to Doug! / Ted Key & Hazel" across the bottom. The corners and edges are lightly creased and there are two vertical creases down the page. Very good.</p><p>Ted Key 1912-2008 born Theodore Keyser was an American cartoonist and writer. The single panel cartoon "Hazel" was his most famous creation. "Hazel" is said to have come to him in 1943 in a dream which he drew the next morning and sent to the Saturday Evening Post where it was accepted and began running regularly. "Kinsky began his career as an antiquarian books dealer becoming the assistant of Albert Kopfermann at the Berlin State Library in 1908. He gained his PhD in 1925 in Cologne writing his thesis about wind instruments. He became Privatdozent of musicology at the University of Cologne teaching from 1921 to 1932 and curator of the Wilheim Heyer Museum of Music History. Kinsky was an acknowledged specialist of musical instruments and their history and had written the 1910-1916 catalogue of the museum. Being the son of a Jewish businessman Kinsky was persecuted by the Nazis which lead to the forced termination of his career as an academic and the forced possession of his private library and collection. Kinsky then served a year in a labour camp until 1945 with the Allied Victory of World War Two. Kinsky spent the rest of his life from 1945 onwards compiling Das Werk Beethovens a thematic index of all of the works of Ludwig van Beethoven. Although Kinsky died before finishing the work the unfinished volume was purchased by the Bavarian State Library and was eventually completed by musicologist Hans Halm. " from Wikipedia . J. M.
