Lee USA was in overall command of the operation to retake the arsenal. Amongst the various papers presented is one by Seymour R. Cray on computer programmed maintenance while Cray was at Remington Rand. Cray would famously later found Cray Research and build the world's first transistorized supercomputer. Cray supercomputers have been portrayed as well in the popular culture appearing in various movies where the evil villains can't control their machines. Both are scarce with only a few copies shown in OCLC for the first title and a half dozen for the second. Chemical Manipulations is intended as a manual for use in the laboratory and covers much ground containing a brief summary of the Principles of Chemistry and Chemical Analysis and part II contains the Special Analyses prescribed in the Programme of Instruction. Instruction in photography reviews various processes both theoretical and practical and contains useful "short examples" where there is a stated problem with printing for instance and possible reasons and solutions are presented. A collection of thirteen real photo postcards featuring young African American Navy midshipmen serving or training during World War II twelve of which have been signed by the subjects in the margin below their photograph. Seven of the men have also added their address below their names while one serviceman inscribed his to "Mr. Strong." The sailors hail from a variety of locations namely Tennessee New Jersey Oklahoma Illinois Maryland and New York two from Brooklyn. The men are all posed likely against a studio backdrop and each is dressed in a blue uniform and white hat. <br> <br> The United States Navy was much slower to welcome African-American servicemen and integrate than the Army. In 1942 the Navy expanded service opportunities for African Americans beyond mess service and Camp Robert Smalls was created within Naval Station Great Lakes to host the first full albeit segregated training programs. The Navy began desegregating training in 1944 with the first thirteen African Americans becoming commissioned and warrant officers that same year the "Golden Thirteen". By 1945 all training was fully integrated. <br> <br> A useful group of photographs signed by African-American midshipmen of the Greatest Generation braving the American Navy during a transformative time in its history. unknown books

Else Very Good.<br/><br/> The 39th Regiment Massachusetts Infantry was organized at Camp Stanton in Lynnfield Massachusetts August 13 through September 2 1862 and mustered for a three-year enlistment under the command of Colonel Phineas Stearns Davis. Originally assigned to the defense of Washington the Regiment later saw action with the Army of the Potomac at the major battles in Virginia. This carefully detailed muster roll was written soon after the Battle at Weldon Railroad in late August 1864. It reflects the consequences of that battle noting soldiers wounded ill and taken as prisoners of war. unknown books

Collection of three vintage promotional photographs of the African American harmony quartet The Ink Spots. <br/><br/>A look at a musical group that was not only internationally famous in its time but greatly influenced multiple musical genres. The first sepia photograph dates to circa late 1930s during the group's first decade a promotional shot of the group singing for National Broadcasting Company NBC radio. <br/><br/>The second photo a master print for a flyer advertises the group circa 1952 when they recorded two LPs for Verve at the Mapes Casino in Reno Nevada. <br/><br/>The third photo circa 1960s advertises the group in one its many final incarnations in which only founding member Bernie Mackey was still in the group. <br/><br/>The Ink Spots formed in the early 1930s in Indianapolis. The group not only incorporated four-part harmony but each played an instrument cello-as-bass tenor guitar guitar and ukelele incorporating the vocals and instrumentation into a seamless whole. <br/><br/>The band's sound was a major influence on doo-wop rhythm and blues and rock music. The core group remained essentially intact during their most popular decades 1930s and early 1940s but due to the war in 1942 and the death of a founding member in 1944 various "sanctioned" substitutions for members of the group began to take place and the identity of the group dispersed into public domain. <br/><br/>The Ink Spots were awarded a plaque from the Negro Actors Guild for their efforts in breaking down racial prejudice.
