Article on cooking extracted from Volume 42 of Johann Georg Krunitz's Oeconomische Encyklopaedie. The plates depict distilling equipment large-scale stoves double-boilers pots and pans pressing equipment and others. The first 73 volumes of this massive work originally appeared in Berlin 1793-1798. Krunitz was born in Berlin and studied at Gottingen Halle and Frankfurt where he took his doctorate in medicine in 1749 and initially practiced. Laurie Colwin a novelist and short stories writer was well known for her wit and especially for her food columns in Gourmet Magazine. Colwin died suddenly at the age of 48 in October 1992. Colwin was a part-time resident of West Cornwall CT where she struck up a friendship with Barbara Farnsworth.
